2-year-old and 10-year-old Siblings Die in House Fire

Two children died and five other people were injured following a devastating house fire early Saturday morning in Buffalo’s MLK Park neighborhood.

Fire crews were dispatched to a residence at 69 French Street just after 5am after reports indicated that multiple people were trapped inside the burning home. Fire officials said the blaze spread quickly through the structure.

Inside, firefighters later located the bodies of a 2-year-old and a 10-year-old. Three other children ages 6, 7, and 8 were pulled from the home along with two adults. All five survivors suffered injuries, the extent of which has not been disclosed.

The fire also killed a dog and two cats that were inside the house.

Authorities placed the estimated loss at approximately $200,000 to the building itself with another $100,000 in property damage inside the home. Once investigators complete their examination of the scene, the city plans to move forward with an emergency demolition of the structure.

The fire also caused damage to two nearby vacant properties. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
