A 21-year-old Niagara County man was killed Wednesday evening in a violent motorcycle crash on Fisk Road that remains under investigation by New York State Police.
Troopers say the fatal collision occurred at approx. 8:20pm in the Town of Lockport and involved a motorcycle and a sport utility vehicle.
According to investigators, Matthew Lauer, 21, of Lockport, was operating a 2026 Kawasaki motorcycle eastbound on Fisk Road when the crash occurred.
Preliminary findings indicate that the motorcycle was traveling “at an extreme rate of speed” as it approached a westbound 2026 Honda CR-V.
Investigators say the Honda was attempting to turn south into a driveway from Fisk Road when the motorcycle collided with the vehicle.
The impact was instant and severe.
Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene shortly after the collision was reported, but Lauer suffered devastating injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Honda, a 66-year-old motorist, sustained minor injuries as a result of the crash.
No charges have been announced against the driver of the Honda. The driver continues to cooperate with law enforcement.
State Police say the investigation remains ongoing.
Anyone with information that may assist investigators is encouraged to contact New York State Police.
