Attempted Gas Can Explosion at Residential Home in Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls Police responded to the 1500 block of Pierce Avenue on May 3rd around 3:00pm for an investigation involving an attempted gas can explosion at a residential home.

Upon arrival, police spoke to the complainant who stated that he woke up and went to the kitchen for a cup of coffee when he looked into the backyard and saw a gas can. The complainant went outside to inspect the gas can and observed a paper-like piece of plastic sticking out of the nozzle.

Officers observed the gas can to be full of gasoline and the paper-like material sticking out of it which appeared to have been set on fire. However, the flame did not reach the gas can itself - preventing what would have been a significant explosion.
