Niagara Falls Police are actively investigating an incident where a firearm was reportedly used in a confrontation involving an occupied vehicle. A handgun was later recovered from a residential backyard.

According to police, the situation unfolded shortly before 12pm on Sunday when officers received reports of a man firing a gun at a vehicle near the intersection of 19th Street and Ashland Avenue. Witnesses stated the suspect pointed the weapon at the vehicle and discharged a single round before fleeing the scene on foot, heading west through an alley between Ashland and LaSalle Avenues.

As law enforcement responded to the area, one officer spotted a male suspect discarding an object over a fence while running near 17th Street and LaSalle Avenue. A subsequent search of the backyard where the object was thrown led to the discovery of a handgun.

The weapon was secured as evidence and detectives are working to determine the identity of the suspect. No injuries were reported.

An investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Niagara Falls Police Department.
