Drunk Woman Sentenced to 90 Days in Jail After Killing Woman With Her Car

A Buffalo woman who struck and killed a pedestrian while driving under the influence has been sentenced to 90 days in jail and five years of probation, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Niyonna Cunningham, 23, was behind the wheel of a Ford SUV with an infant inside when she fatally hit 62-year-old Madonna Bishop around 10pm on November 28th, 2024.

The crash occurred near the intersection of Boehm Place and Bailey Avenue.

Authorities say Cunningham was intoxicated at the time of the collision. Bishop was rushed to Erie County Medical Center where she was later pronounced dead.

Cunningham pleaded guilty in May to one count of second-degree vehicular manslaughter, a felony charge that carried a potential maximum sentence of seven years in prison. Her plea and sentencing were handled in Erie County Court.

In addition to the jail time and probation, Cunningham will be subject to other court-ordered conditions related to her conviction.
