Niagara Falls Police responded to Walmart around 2pm on October 27th after reports of a larceny.
Upon arrival, officers were met by loss prevention regarding a female leaving her wallet in a shopping cart and returning to find it missing. Officers were shown surveillance footage where the suspect, a black male identified as Walmart employee Jamal Johnson Jr., was pushing carts in the vestibule area and then leans over and takes something out of one.
The suspect was questioned by law enforcement in the vestibule area where he was last seen going off camera after taking an item out of a returned shopping cart. While loss prevention and a detective were speaking with Johnson, an officer began checking the shopping cart area and noticed an open black book bag with significant weight to it.
Officers pulled the bag out and felt was resembled the grip of a handgun. Johnson told police that it was his bag. After a search, it was confirmed that the item in the bag was a Glock 19.
Johnson was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters for booking and processing. He was charged under NY Penal Law 265.03, criminal possession of a loaded weapon, which is a felony.
Johnson was terminated from his employment at Walmart.
