Man Airlifted from Niagara Gorge After Serious Fall

Emergency crews carried out a rescue operation in the Niagara Gorge on Saturday, March 21st after a man in his 60s suffered significant injuries in a fall and had to be airlifted to a nearby hospital.

The incident began late Saturday morning when fishermen in the area discovered the injured man and notified authorities at approx. 11:20am. Initial information indicated the man had fallen down a steep embankment within the gorge.

Due to the challenging terrain, multiple emergency agencies responded and made their way down into the gorge to reach the victim. Niagara Falls firefighters, New York State Parks Police, and an AMR crew coordinated efforts to locate and assess the man’s condition.

Upon reaching him, first responders determined he had sustained a serious head injury. Given the severity of the injuries and the remote location, crews requested Mercy Flight assistance.

A Mercy Flight helicopter was able to land within the gorge at Flat Rock, a designated landing area used in emergency situations. Rescue personnel then worked together to safely move the injured man to the helicopter.

Once secured, he was flown to Erie County Medical Center for further treatment. His current condition has not been released.
