The man accused of gunning down a co-worker inside a Wegmans distribution facility near Rochester last summer has now been convicted of murder.

Kyshonn Green was found guilty Thursday, May 7th of second-degree murder in connection with the death of 25-year-old J’Mere Ridley-Smith who was fatally shot while working inside the Wegmans distribution center on Brooks Avenue in Gates.

The conviction comes nearly a year after the deadly workplace shooting shocked employees and prompted a massive law enforcement response at the facility.

The violence unfolded on July 26th, 2025, when police were called to the distribution center following reports of gunfire inside the building.

When officers arrived, they discovered Ridley-Smith suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Investigators said he had been working at the facility at the time of the shooting.

Emergency responders attempted life-saving measures, but Ridley-Smith was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police later identified Green – one of Ridley-Smith’s co-workers – as the suspect in his killing.

According to investigators, Green fled New York in the aftermath of the shooting, sparking a multi-state search. Authorities eventually tracked him to Knoxville, Tennessee, where he was taken into custody and returned to New York to face prosecution.

The case drew widespread attention throughout the Rochester region because of the location of the shooting and the circumstances surrounding it. The Wegmans distribution center is a major regional facility employing large numbers of workers and operating around the clock.

Following the shooting, law enforcement agencies secured the sprawling property as detectives worked to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the killing. Investigators spent hours processing the scene and interviewing employees who were inside the facility during the incident.

Even as of today there are still few public details as to what led to the confrontation between the two men.

Thursday’s conviction, however, brings the criminal proceedings significantly closer to a conclusion. Green is scheduled to be sentenced on June 30th. He now faces the possibility of a lengthy state prison sentence following the second-degree murder conviction.
