Man Fooled during Facebook Marketplace Meetup with Fake Money

Niagara Falls Police were flagged down by a citizen on the 1500 block of Pine avenue around 1am on March 28th where he reported a larceny.

He explained to officers that he met up with someone interested in purchasing his sunglasses and diamond earrings on Facebook marketplace. They agreed upon the price of $400 cash for both items and planned to meet at the corner of 22nd Street and LaSalle Avenue at approx. 10:30pm.

When the complainant met the suspect on the corner of 22nd and LaSalle they made the exchange of what appeared to be $400 in cash for the sunglasses and diamond earrings. The suspect fled the scene quickly. Upon inspection of the money, he realized it was prop money with the words “motion picture purposes” only on it.

The complainant shared with officers the suspect’s Facebook name. The prop money was taken by officers as evidence.

No further information is available at this time.
