A 22-year-old New Jersey man wanted on serious criminal charges was taken into custody Monday at the Rainbow Bridge border crossing in Niagara Falls, according to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
Malakai McRay was attempting to reenter the United States aboard a commercial bus when CBP officers flagged his name during a routine background check. The check revealed an active warrant for negligent manslaughter involving a weapon issued out of Essex County, New Jersey.
Upon confirming McRay's identity through a secondary inspection, officers took him into custody without incident. He was then handed over to the New York State Police and transported to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office where he is currently being held pending extradition proceedings to return him to New Jersey.
