If you're hoping for a glimpse of something (or someone) from another world, New York might be one of your best bets. According to recent data, the Empire State ranks fifth in the nation for reported UFO sightings and purported alien activity.
The ranking, compiled by the National UFO Reporting Center (NUFORC) and analyzed by Casino.ca, a Canadian online gaming site, found that New York sees approximately one UFO report for every 1,301 residents. The study coincided with National Alien Abduction Day, observed annually on March 20th.
Only four states outrank New York in extraterrestrial encounters. California leads the country in UFO reports followed by Washington, Florida, and Oregon. The NUFORC, which has tracked unexplained aerial phenomena since 1974, has logged over 6,100 sightings in New York alone.
One of the most recent incidents, reported on March 11th in New Paltz, involved a disc-shaped object silently hovering in the night sky. These kinds of sightings continue to fuel speculation about life beyond Earth, and New York appears to be a frequent stop for extraterrestrials.
While UFO sightings alone might not be enough to plan a road trip, Upstate New York offers several attractions for those fascinated by the paranormal. One of the most talked-about is Thompson Park in Watertown, rumored to contain a mysterious "vortex" that has earned it the nickname “Watertown’s Area 51.” Legend has it that visitors passing through certain parts of the park might experience momentary time shifts or other strange phenomena.
