North Tonawanda Officials to Vote on Crypto Mining Moratorium, Residents Demand Action

North Tonawanda residents expressed their frustration and pleaded with city leaders to address the incessant noise emanating from a local crypto mining plant during a public hearing held on Tuesday, July 9th. Responding to their concerns, Mayor Austin Tylec has proposed a two-year moratorium on all new crypto mining developments, a move that has garnered strong support from some North Tonawanda residents. The proposal, which aims to halt the expansion of existing facilities and the development of new ones, will be put to a vote by the common council on July 16th.

The public hearing provided an opportunity for residents to voice their grievances regarding the crypto mining plant located on Erie Avenue. Nearly every individual present at the hearing highlighted the disruptive impact of the noise on their daily lives. They expressed hope that the proposed moratorium would bring them some much-needed peace of mind.

Mayor Austin Tylec assured the residents that their concerns have been heard and acknowledged. By proposing the two-year moratorium, he aims to address the noise issue and provide relief to the affected community. The moratorium would not only prevent the expansion of existing crypto mining facilities but also put a temporary halt on the establishment of new ones.

The common council will convene on July 16th to vote on the proposed moratorium. If approved, it would mark a significant step towards mitigating the noise pollution caused by the crypto mining plant. The decision would also demonstrate the city's commitment to prioritizing the well-being and quality of life of its residents.

Residents of North Tonawanda eagerly await the outcome of the vote, hopeful that their concerns will be addressed and that the proposed moratorium will bring about the desired peace and tranquility they seek.
