Officer Stabbed, Suspect Shot in Domestic Disturbance; Investigation Underway

Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred in Amherst on Saturday evening during a police response to a domestic disturbance.
The incident took place around 5pm at a residence in the 4800 block of Bailey Avenue.
According to police, officers encountered an adult male armed with a knife upon arrival.
During the confrontation, the suspect allegedly stabbed one of the officers.
In response, another officer discharged their firearm, striking the suspect.
Both the injured officer and the suspect were transported to ECMC.
The officer was treated for stab wounds and later released while the suspect remains in stable condition and in police custody.
Amherst Police confirmed that all officers involved were wearing body cameras and the footage is being reviewed as part of the investigation.
The names of those involved have not been released.
The incident is being investigated jointly by the Amherst Police Department, the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, and the New York State Attorney General’s Office.
