A pair of parents are facing criminal charges after New York State Police say their 4-year-old child was discovered wandering alongside the Thruway near Buffalo.
According to State Police, troopers were called to Interstate 90 in the Silver Creek area on October 28th after receiving reports that a small child had been spotted near the roadway.
Investigators say a passing driver saw the child step into traffic and immediately pulled over, contacted 911, and stayed with the child to ensure safety until authorities arrived.
Police determined the child lived nearby. Around the same time, Child Protective Services (CPS) workers had arrived at the home for an unannounced visit and discovered the child was missing. CPS staff began searching the house and nearby area, eventually noticing police lights flashing in the distance.
Troopers at the scene informed CPS and the child’s parents that the child had been located and was unharmed.
State Police arrested the parents and charged them with endangering the welfare of a child. It is believed that the child has been removed from the home.
An investigation remains ongoing.
