Police Investigating Death Following Apparent Fall from Railroad Bridge in Niagara County


Authorities in Lockport are investigating a fatal incident that occurred late Monday morning involving an individual who reportedly jumped from the Lockport Railroad Bridge.


Lockport Police responded to the area near the bridge at approximately 10:56am after receiving a report of a person jumping from the structure. Upon arrival, officers discovered a deceased individual at the base of the bridge, near the Erie Canal towpath.



The Niagara County Coroner's Office was called to the scene and the deceased was later transported to the Erie County Medical Examiner’s Office for further examination.


At this time, the Lockport Police Department’s Detective Division is investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending the outcome of the investigation.



Police confirmed that the family of the individual has been notified.
