Significant Injuries After Multi-Vehicle Crash Involving NFTA Bus in Niagara County

A multi-vehicle crash involving an NFTA bus in Niagara County resulted in seven individuals being transported to Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) on Friday, according to an announcement by the Niagara Frontier Transportation Authority (NFTA). The incident occurred when a van collided with a car and subsequently crashed into an occupied NFTA bus, causing significant injuries.

Officials reported that around 1:45pm, an NFTA bus was traveling eastbound on Lockport Road near Walmore and Ward Roads in Wheatfield. Simultaneously, a sprinter van and a Chevy Cruz were traveling westbound on Lockport.

According to witnesses, the van allegedly attempted to pass the Chevy on the right side leading to a collision between the two vehicles. The impact caused the van to spin out of control and veer into oncoming traffic ultimately crashing into the NFTA bus. The force of the crash was so severe that the driver of the van was ejected from the vehicle.

The driver sustained serious injuries and was immediately transported to ECMC for urgent medical treatment. Additionally, six other individuals, including the bus operator and two bus passengers, were also taken to ECMC for further evaluation and care.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the crash to determine the exact sequence of events and the factors that contributed to the collision. The NFTA and law enforcement agencies are working diligently to gather evidence and interview witnesses to gain a comprehensive understanding of the incident.
