Suspect in Deadly Wegmans Distribution Center Shooting Arrested; Area Faces Food Shortages

Wegmans grocery stores across Western New York, including Niagara and Erie Counties, are experiencing a disruption in produce availability after a deadly shooting occurred over the weekend at one of the company’s distribution centers near Rochester.
According to a notice posted on the Wegmans website, “Due to circumstances at our warehouse, produce availability will be limited until midweek. We apologize for the inconvenience.”
The incident took place Saturday at the Wegmans distribution center in Gates where 25-year-old employee J’Mere Ridley-Smith was fatally shot.
UPDATE - SUSPECT ARRESTED
Authorities later identified 32-year-old Kyshonn Green as the suspect. He was taken into custody Sunday night in Tennessee.
ORIGINAL STORY
A man in his 20s was killed in a shooting Saturday night at the Wegmans Warehouse located on Brooks Avenue in the Town of Gates, NY.
Police responded to the warehouse at 1500 Brooks Avenue at approximately 4:15pm following reports of shots fired.
Upon arrival, officers found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The suspect fled the area before police arrived. At the time, authorities said there is no ongoing threat to nearby businesses or the community.
Multiple agencies including the Gates Police Department, Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, and Greece Police Department responded to the shooting.
Investigators do not believe the incident to be related to a separate shooting that occurred Friday outside an Amazon Distribution Center in Gates.
The identity of the suspect is unknown and any motive is unknown. An investigation is ongoing.
Authorities are asking anyone with information related to the shooting to contact 911 or Crime Stoppers.
