Suspect Tries to Fatally Stab 15-year-old with a Hunting Knife, Motive Unknown

Niagara Falls Police responded to the 2400 block of South Avenue around 11am on July 11th after an unknown suspect tries to stab a 15-year-old with a hunting knife.
Upon arrival, police spoke to the teenage complainant who stated he was walking home at the corner of 24th and South Ave. when an unknown male suspect tapped him on the shoulder. When he turned around, the unknown suspect tried to stab him with a large fixed blade hunting knife.
The knife sliced through his jacket but did not reach his body. The complainant then threw a punch at the unknown suspect. It was not reported if he made contact with the suspect or not. There is no clear indication of what the suspect's motive was.
Both males then started running. The complainant ran home and the suspect toward Hyde Park Boulevard. The suspect was described as a black male, medium build, in jeans and a black sweatshirt. The monetary value of his damaged jacket is $100.
Police checked the area with negative results. No further information is available.
