Woman and Infant Killed, Man Seriously Injured in House Fire

Tragedy struck Buffalo’s Elmwood Village early Saturday morning when a fire tore through part of a residence leaving a woman and her baby dead and sending a man to the hospital with critical injuries.
City officials confirmed the Buffalo Fire Department received reports of the blaze at 428 Norwood Avenue around 8:35am. Firefighters discovered flames on the first floor of the 2 ½-story multi-unit home. Crews were able to contain the fire to that section of the building.
Authorities said a 29-year-old woman and an infant were found inside and pronounced dead at the scene. A 30-year-old man was transported to Erie County Medical Center with severe injuries.
Officials estimate the fire caused approximately $100,000 in damage to the home and its contents. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the blaze. The names of both victims are being withheld at this time.
