5-year-old Boy in Serious Condition After Being Rescued from Under Vehicle in Niagara County

A 5-year-old child remains hospitalized in serious condition following a heart-wrenching accident Monday evening in Niagara County where he was found unconscious and pinned beneath a vehicle in a residential driveway.

Emergency crews rushed to a home on Ellicott Road in the Town of Hartland shortly after 5pm after receiving a 911 call reporting a young boy trapped under a car. Deputies from the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office were the first to arrive and discovered the child unresponsive beneath the vehicle.

A coordinated rescue effort ensued involving EMS personnel, other law enforcement agencies, firefighters, and community members. Working together, they managed to lift the vehicle and pull the child to safety. Emergency responders immediately began life-saving medical treatment on-site.

After stabilizing the boy, Mercy Flight transported him to Oishei Children’s Hospital in Buffalo where he is currently being treated in the Intensive Care Unit.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the accident is still under investigation by their Accident Investigation Unit, but early findings suggest the incident was unintentional. Authorities confirmed that everyone present at the time of the accident has been fully cooperative.

Agencies assisting in the response included the New York State Police, Middleport Village Police, and the Wright’s Corners Volunteer Fire Company.

The Sheriff’s Office has not released the child’s name and no further updates on his condition have been provided at this time.
