Travel between Toronto’s main airport and Niagara Falls is about to become significantly more streamlined as Air Canada is rolling out its new cross-regional transportation option designed to simplify the journey for visitors.
Beginning June 15th, the airline will introduce a round-trip motorcoach service connecting Toronto Pearson International Airport with key destinations in Niagara including the Niagara District Airport and hotels along Fallsview Boulevard. The service, operated in partnership with The Landline Company, will run three times daily in each direction.
City officials in Niagara Falls say the move could be a game changer for tourism. Mayor Jim Diodati said, “We are really excited about it. I told them three buses a day won’t be enough.”
Unlike a traditional bus ride, the service is designed to function as an extension of a flight. According to Air Canada, passengers will be able to check in, print boarding passes and bag tags, earn Aeroplan points, and receive disruption protection—essentially treating the bus leg like a connecting flight.
Diodati said the convenience factor addresses a long-standing barrier for travelers trying to reach Niagara Falls from Toronto.
“Usually, you would have to book another bus, some kind of Uber system, taxi or rent a car,” he said. “It’s complicated. Toronto is a very big and busy city, and to get [to Niagara Falls], it’s complicated. Oftentimes, people just don’t come because it’s too hard to get here,” he said. “It makes it easier, more convenient, and it’s a nice way for people to get right to Niagara or Niagara to their destination.”
Officials also expect the new route to benefit the broader cross-border region. With many international travelers already carrying passports, Diodati said the improved access could encourage more visitors to explore both sides of the border.
“A lot of people, they’re travelling, they have passports already, so they’re going to definitely want to come into Buffalo and New York and explore the great USA. I think it’s going to be a high tide brings up all boats kind of scenario,” he said.
Fares for the service are expected to start at $49 and travelers who already have an Air Canada flight booked through Toronto Pearson can add the bus segment to their itinerary at no additional cost if arranged before the end of April.
