A woman’s body was recovered from the Niagara Gorge on Tuesday morning with the help of a New York State Police Aviation Unit helicopter. The recovery involved a joint operation with New York State Park Police.
The recovery followed an overnight call to the Niagara Falls Police Department reporting a mental health crisis. As the investigation progressed, Park Police were notified and initiated a search in the gorge area.
Officers located the woman’s body early Tuesday and secured it in a stokes basket.
It was then lifted out of the gorge by helicopter and flown to Deveaux Woods State Park where it was transferred to the coroner’s office.
Authorities clarified that this incident is not connected to the recent boating accident on the upper Niagara River.
The woman's identity is not being released at this time.
