A Sunday evening car accident in Niagara Falls led to the condemnation of a residential building after it sustained major structural damage.
The incident took place around 5:30pm when a Hyundai Elantra, heading south on 19th Street, veered off course. The vehicle struck a street sign before crashing into a property near the intersection with 18th Street, specifically 717 18th Street.
Authorities reported that the impact was strong enough to shift the building from its foundation. The damage was deemed severe from code enforcement department officials and the building was condemned on the spot for safety reasons.
A resident from a second-floor apartment was displaced and forced to leave their home due to the extent of the structural damage. The female driver of the vehicle did not suffer any injuries and declined medical treatment at the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by local police. No charges have been filed at this time against the driver.
