Niagara Falls officials are trying to determine what sparked an early morning blaze at an auto repair shop on 21st Street.
The fire broke out around 4am Thursday at Len’s Auto Repair, located at 646 21st Street. According to authorities, a Niagara Falls police officer first spotted thick smoke coming from an alleyway between 20th and 21st streets and quickly discovered the garage engulfed in flames.
Firefighters from multiple companies arrived on scene. The crew from Engine 4 deployed a handline to begin suppressing the fire while Truck 1 worked to gain entry into the building.
Engine 8 crews advanced a second handline through a doorway on the north side of the structure to launch an interior attack. Meanwhile, Engine 3’s team connected a hydrant and secured a steady water supply for Engine 4.
Crews battled the flames for roughly an hour before bringing the situation under control. No injuries were reported.
The property was later turned over to the city’s fire investigator and Code Enforcement for further examination. The official cause of the fire remains undetermined.
