Facebook Helps Identify Suspect in Niagara County Farm Stand Theft

A woman has been charged following a theft at a roadside farm stand in the Town of Cambria.
On May 7th, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of larceny involving stolen goods from a local farm stand. The victim was able to provide deputies with surveillance images of the suspect and her vehicle.
Later that evening, the Sheriff's Office posted the images on its official Facebook page, asking for public assistance in identifying the suspect. The social media post quickly gained traction, ultimately being shared more than 1,500 times.
Through public tips and with support from the Niagara County Intelligence and Crime Analysis Center, the suspect was identified as 59-year-old Shelly M. Geber of Cheektowaga.
Deputy Pegan led the investigation, which culminated in Geber being charged with one count of Petit Larceny.
She was processed and released with an appearance ticket in accordance with New York State’s bail reform laws.
