Water safety remains a growing concern in upstate New York as four additional fatalities were reported across three separate incidents in recent days, according to various sheriff departments.
Authorities in Oswego County confirmed that two men from Syracuse, 64-year-old Dale Hull and 65-year-old Dean Hull, died Wednesday afternoon.
Responding to a report of a boat found adrift in Three Mile Bay on the north shore of Oneida Lake near West Monroe, members of the Oswego County Sheriff's Marine Patrol discovered both men deceased in the water. The county’s medical examiner is currently examining the bodies as part of the ongoing investigation.
In Saratoga County, emergency services were dispatched Tuesday afternoon to Great Sacandaga Lake in the town of Day.
Deputies reported that a 77-year-old man, initially seated on the swim platform of his boat, was later located floating face down in the water while wearing a life jacket.
He was transported to Saratoga Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The incident remains under investigation.
A third incident occurred Thursday when New York State Police responded to a drowning near Route 9P on Saratoga Lake around 3pm.
Investigators determined that Thomas Walsh Jr., 62, of Cohoes, had entered the water to swim without a flotation device and subsequently drowned.
Another individual who attempted to assist Walsh also experienced distress in the water but was rescued by someone else at the scene.
These fatalities follow a series of recent water-related deaths across the region including two others on Great Sacandaga Lake, one each on Lake George and Queechy Lake, a fatal boating incident on Otisco Lake in Onondaga County, and two fatalities in Niagara County.
