A Buffalo resident has been charged with animal cruelty after a 9-year-old Chihuahua named Bella sustained severe injuries including skull fractures earlier this year.
According to the Erie County District Attorney’s Office, 30-year-old Deandre Rogers is accused of striking the dog inside a residence on Geary Street on May 10th.
Bella was initially treated at BluePearl Pet Hospital for her injuries and was later transferred to the SPCA for continued care.
Rogers was arraigned Thursday on charges including aggravated cruelty to animals and overdriving, torturing, and injuring animals, as well as failing to provide proper sustenance.
He was released without bail.
Prosecutors have requested that the court bar Rogers from possessing or caring for any animals while the case is ongoing.
If convicted, he could face up to two years in prison. His next court appearance is August 21th.
