On Saturday, October 18th, demonstrators across New York will gather under the “No Kings” movement with more than 100 protests scheduled statewide.
The coordinated effort marks the second wave of demonstrations this year following June’s widespread rallies, which organizers described as historic.
“In June, we did what many claimed was impossible: peacefully mobilized millions of people to take to the streets and declare with one voice: America has No Kings. And it mattered,” the official No Kings website states. “Now President Trump has doubled down ... The president thinks his rule is absolute. But in America, we don't have kings and we won't back down against chaos, corruption, and cruelty.”
According to the group’s website, the protests aim to highlight multiple issues including:
-Federal immigration enforcement and ICE raids
-Cuts to healthcare, education, and environmental protections
-Rising inflation and its impact on families
-The ongoing crisis of mass shootings
-Concerns over elections and voting rights
Organizers stressed that the movement is rooted in nonviolence.
“We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values and to act lawfully at these events,” the group’s statement reads. It also makes clear that “weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events.”
Thousands of events are planned nationwide with New York hosting over 100 separate demonstrations. Among those listed in Western New York are:
Lockport: In front of Walmart and M&T Bank, 11am – 1pm
Buffalo: Niagara Square, 11am – 1pm
Rochester: Genesee Gateway Park, 12pm – 3pm
