Niagara Falls Police Already at Tops when Fight Breaks Out Over Stolen Case of Beer

Niagara Falls Police were already at Tops on the 1000 block of Portage Road around 4pm on May 5th when they observed a fight break out in the vestibule.

Upon relocating to that area, officers were advised that one of the parties was stealing. A store employee, in addition to another citizen, were involved in the altercation attempting to stop the shoplifter.

Officers then attempted to place the male under arrest. However, he refused and officers used force to subdue him.

Once the male was detained, officers spoke to the store manager who stated that the suspect was attempting to steal a case of beer and when they confronted him he began to fight them.

The suspect continued to fight with officers even when they were trying to put him in the back of the patrol car. He was transported to police headquarters for booking and processing.

One officer sustained an injury as a result of the incident. No further information is available at this time.
