Niagara Falls Woman Sentenced to 20 Years for Fatal Stabbing of Mother

A Niagara Falls woman has been sentenced to two decades in state prison for the killing of her mother inside their Main Street apartment.

According to the Niagara County District Attorney’s Office, 30-year-old Seleste Bomberry was sentenced to 20 years in prison following her conviction for first-degree manslaughter in connection with the death of her mother, 48-year-old Gennie Blackwell.

Prosecutors said the fatal incident occurred on March 23rd, 2025, inside the pair’s apartment on Main Street in Niagara Falls. Authorities determined that an altercation between Bomberry and Blackwell escalated into violence ending with Blackwell being fatally stabbed.

Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman reflected on the conclusion of the case, stating, “This morning’s sentencing brings this tragic case to its conclusion.”

Bomberry was initially charged with second-degree murder following her arrest. However, the case ultimately concluded with a guilty plea to first-degree manslaughter in December 2025, avoiding a potential trial.

The sentence was handed down by County Court Judge Caroline Wojtaszek.

On the night of the incident, officers with the Niagara Falls Police Department responded to a call reporting an assault involving a weapon at 1807 Main Street. Upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive woman lying on the floor and detained a suspect at the scene.

Police attempted life-saving measures before emergency medical personnel arrived but Blackwell was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined that the violence stemmed from a confrontation between Bomberry and her mother that escalated rapidly.

Family and friends described Blackwell as a devoted mother and grandmother who had recently returned to Niagara Falls to be closer to her loved ones. Those who knew her said she had centered her life around her children and grandchildren.
