Woman Shot by Officer After Threatening Behavior with Knife

Amherst police confirmed that an officer shot and injured a woman on Tuesday afternoon at the Colonie Apartment Complex on Sweet Home Road.

Authorities said the incident began around 2pm when a female armed with a knife was reported to be acting in a “threatening manner.” According to police, she advanced toward officers before being shot by one of them.

Emergency crews provided medical treatment at the scene and the woman was then transported to Erie County Medical Center. Police stated no officers were harmed during the confrontation.

At approximately 2:40pm, the public was urged to avoid the area of Durham Drive near Sweet Home Road while officers investigated. Amherst police later clarified that there was no ongoing threat to the community.

Officials noted that body-worn cameras recorded the encounter and said the Erie County District Attorney’s Office will conduct a “thorough review.”

The names of the individuals involved have not yet been released, police added.
