Handgun Recovered After Witnesses Report Attempted Drive-by Shooting in Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls Police are actively investigating an incident where a firearm was reportedly used in a confrontation involving an occupied vehicle. A handgun was later recovered from a residential backyard.
According to police, the situation unfolded shortly before 12pm on Sunday when officers received reports of a man firing a gun at a vehicle near the intersection of 19th Street and Ashland Avenue. Witnesses stated the suspect pointed the weapon at the vehicle and discharged a single round before fleeing the scene on foot, heading west through an alley between Ashland and LaSalle Avenues.
As law enforcement responded to the area, one officer spotted a male suspect discarding an object over a fence while running near 17th Street and LaSalle Avenue. A subsequent search of the backyard where the object was thrown led to the discovery of a handgun.
The weapon was secured as evidence and detectives are working to determine the identity of the suspect. No injuries were reported.
