In a shocking incident that occurred last year, a Niagara Falls woman has been sentenced to 10 years in state prison for intentionally running over four people with her SUV. Shawnquilla N. Armstrong, 32-years-old, was convicted of first-degree attempted assault and received two consecutive five-year sentences for each count.
The incident took place along a sidewalk on Pierce Avenue in the Falls. Armstrong allegedly used her SUV to target a group of people after a dispute. After striking the victims, she callously fled the scene leaving four individuals injured and in need of medical attention.
Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman expressed his concern over the severity of the incident. He stated, "The tire of Armstrong's vehicle came within inches of running over one person's head, highlighting the potential for even greater harm."
According to the Niagara Falls Police Department, the incident occurred in the early evening after a dispute involving approximately six individuals. The group had gathered on the sidewalk on 22nd Street near Pierce Avenue when Armstrong allegedly used her vehicle as a weapon.
The victims, a 16-year-old boy and a 52-year-old woman, suffered serious leg injuries and were immediately transported to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo for treatment. Two other pedestrians sustained minor injuries but did not seek immediate medical attention.
The court's decision to sentence Armstrong to 10 years in state prison reflects the seriousness of her actions and the potential danger she posed to the victims. The judge emphasized the need for accountability and the importance of ensuring public safety.
