Police Called during Attempted House Break-in, Captured after Running into a Fence

Niagara Falls Police responded to the 2200 block of LaSalle Avenue around 7:30am on November 1st after reports of criminal mischief.

While on routine patrol, officers were dispatched to the above-referenced location for a black male with dreads who was trying to break into the residence.

Upon arrival, officers located a male matching the same description exiting the side door of the home. Officers ordered the male to stop at which point he took off running eastbound.

The male then proceeded to run southbound through a yard where he broke a vinyl fence. Officers were able to get the male in custody a short time later. While in custody, the male gave officers a fake name.

Officers interviewed the homeowner who stated the male did not have permission to be in his home. However, he did not wish to press charges. The homeowner whose vinyl fence was destroyed did seek to press charges against the male. The estimated damage to the fence is $2,000.

No further information is available at this time.
