  • How much water goes over Niagara Falls?

One of the most staggering statistics about Niagara Falls is how much water cascades over the river below. Niagara Falls – which encompasses the American Falls, Bridal Veil Falls and Horseshoe Falls – is recognized as having the greatest flow rate of any waterfall in the world. Together, more than 168,000 cubic meters, which amounts to over 40 million gallons, go over the falls every minute during peak season. That number lessens to about 110,000 cubic meters, or about 30 million gallons, per minute on average when averaging peak and non-peak seasons. 3,160 tons of water flow over Niagara Falls every second. This accounts for 75,750 gallons of water every second over the American and Bridal Veil Falls and 681,750 gallons per second over the Horseshoe Falls.

  • The Historic Town of Lewiston - A Gem of the Niagara Region

Village of Lewiston, located only ten (10) minutes away from Niagara Falls, is said to be the “most historic square mile in America.” As it turns out, there are several very good reasons giving merit to the claim. For example, Lewiston was the site of the first European settlement in Western New York in 1720. It is the site of the American invasion of Canada in 1812, which was later burned to the ground by the British in December of 1813. Lewiston also happened to be the last stop for slaves using the underground railroad seeking freedom from slavery in Canada. In addition to the various historical significances, you can actually see how the power of Niagara Falls, one of the world’s mightiest wonders, over thousands of years, eroded south through seven miles of solid rock to its present location now in the City of Niagara Falls. A path that is visible by following the Niagara Gorge which begins in Lewiston. Lewiston is also home to the cocktail drink, which was invented by Catherine Hustler. Ms. Hustler’s tavern in Lewiston was the last building left standing when the British invaded, perhaps, as some say, because the British Officers recalled their good times sipping a “Cocktail” prepared by the owner. A gin mixture, the drink got its name from being stirred with a tail feather of a stuffed cockerel (a young male of the domestic fowl). Lewiston sits on the Niagara River directly across from Canada and halfway between Niagara Falls and historic Fort Niagara in Youngstown. The business district of Lewiston, stretching for more than a mile on Center Street, is definitely worth walking. The dozens of shops and restaurants that line the street give it a small town feel that you would never experience in a larger, more commercial, setting. Also stunning are the homes and buildings, now renovated into shops or restaurants, that were constructed during the 1800’s and still standing today. There are many popular festivals in Lewiston throughout the year, such as the Art Festival, Peach Festival, Taste of Lewiston, and Jazz Festival. One of the better known attractions in Lewiston, and in fact the entire Western New York region, is Artpark. An indoor-outdoor theater complex that is home to performing and visual arts presentations, shows, and concerts, throughout the summer months. Lewiston is a must-see stop for visitors who wish to experience the brilliance and wonder of what the Niagara Region has to offer. • Niagara Action Launches Wide-Ranging Website Centered on Niagara Falls Tourism

Niagara Falls, NY: On Wednesday, June 21st, 2023, Niagara Action Media announced the launch of their wide-ranging website centered around tourism in Niagara Falls, events in Western New York, and heartwarming community stories. Niagara Action has maintained the largest social media presence in Niagara County for over five years. Over the past eight months, Niagara Action has shifted its focus to concentrating on positive community news and promoting tourism for the Cataract City. Since that time, Niagara Action has grown to cement itself as having largest tourism-based social media presence in New York State centered around Niagara Falls. The move to focus on highlighting community events and small businesses, positive news and tourism was a no brainer for owner Nicollette Silluzio. “The Niagara region, and Western New York as a whole, has so much to offer,” said Silluzio. “Oftentimes we forget the things that make this area special. There are countless small businesses, attractions, events and etc. that deserve to be highlighted and publicized not only for people in our community, but for the millions of people that come each year to see Niagara Falls. Our website will feature a comprehensive events calendar covering events all over Western New York for kids, adults and tourists to enjoy. As it pertains to tourism, Silluzio stated she intends to make Niagara Falls a multi-day destination. “I am a firm believer that there is much more for tourists to experience in Western New York than Niagara Falls itself. One of the most important parts of our website allows visitors to plan a trip filled with attractions, activities, tours, events, and eateries that they would otherwise not know about. My goal is to make Niagara Falls more than a quick stop for tourists, but rather a true vacation destination filled with days of fun and excitement.” According to data compiled by Facebook (Meta), Niagara Action reaches an average of 45-60 million people per month with an average engagement of 5-10 million, which includes 5-10 million video views during that span. The website also includes unique falls-inspired merchandise not sold anywhere else. Going forward, Silluzio says her goal is to continue expanding. “This website is merely the first step in moving toward an all-encompassing one-stop-shop for tourists from all over the world. Our future, and that of the Niagara region, is bright.”
