A Niagara County man is facing multiple charges after allegedly attempting to trade guns on the Facebook Marketplace. Michael Lee, a 32-year-old resident of Burt, was arrested by New York State Police following an investigation into his online activities last week. According to authorities, Lee posted an advertisement on the Facebook Marketplace seeking to trade firearms in exchange for a vehicle. The New York State Police became aware of the post and started an investigation. Troopers obtained a search warrant for Lee's residence and discovered four assault weapons and eight high-capacity magazines. Lee has been charged with four counts of criminal possession of an assault weapon, criminal possession of a weapon, high-capacity magazine, and possession of a loaded firearm. The Buffalo Police Department is currently conducting an investigation into an incident on Friday night that left one person dead. Authorities responded to a distress call just before 9:30pm. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 42-year-old man in a backyard who had sustained gunshot wounds. Despite the efforts of emergency responders, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. The Starpoint Central School District has released a letter to the community addressing the recent arrest of Superintendent Sean M. Croft for driving while intoxicated. The letter, signed by Starpoint Board of Education President Jeffrey Duncan, emphasizes the district's commitment to high standards and the expectation that leadership reflects these values. The incident occurred on August 31st in West Seneca when Croft's vehicle sustained significant front-end damage and the airbags deployed after crashing into a tree. Croft failed several field sobriety tests and registered a positive result on a roadside breath test. He was subsequently charged with DWI, moving from lane unsafely, and imprudent speed. A 40-year-old man from New Jersey has been sentenced to 15 years in state prison for a series of violent attacks in Niagara Falls. Quennel Jordan was convicted for attacking four individuals, including two with a baseball bat, in separate incidents. Niagara County District Attorney Brian D. Seaman announced the sentencing of Jordan for his involvement in a string of brutal assaults that occurred in Niagara Falls during the summer of 2021. Jordan pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including one count of Attempted Assault in the First Degree, two counts of Assault in the Second Degree, and one count of Attempted Assault in the Second Degree. The violent incidents took place in June and July of 2021. In June, Jordan attempted to assault two individuals, one of whom narrowly escaped injury during the attack with a baseball bat. The following month, Jordan attacked another person with a baseball bat and was also involved in a brutal stomping outside a gas station in Niagara Falls. During a search of a home in Niagara Falls, ON, multiple improvised explosive devices (IEDs) were found prompting an investigation by the Niagara Regional Police. The incident unfolded on September 4th when authorities responded to a residence on Beaver Glen Drive following a report of a possible suspicious device. Upon arrival, police officers conducted an initial search of the home and uncovered several dangerous devices. As a precautionary measure, nearby homes were evacuated and the Explosive Disposal Unit was requested to the scene. Expert explosives officers assessed the devices and safely removed them to a secure location for further examination. In a news release, the Niagara Regional Police confirmed that the devices were determined to be improvised explosive devices in various stages of completeness. The explosives team successfully rendered the devices safe, ensuring the safety of the surrounding area. Residents were allowed to return to their homes at approximately 3pm after the area was deemed secure. The investigation into the incident is ongoing. On Saturday, September 7th at 3:25am the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received a 911 call from a homeowner reporting his residence was filling with smoke at 8713 Main Street in the Village of Barker. Upon arrival, Deputies located an active fire inside of the home and reported that the two occupants at home had already evacuated. Responding personnel from numerous fire companies arrived on scene and extinguished the fire. One of the occupants, an 18-year-old female, was transported to Medina Memorial Hospital for evaluation and treatment of minor injuries. The home is being considered a total loss; however, the total damage amount is not yet available. The residents of the house have been connected with the American Red Cross for emergency assistance. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Niagara County Origin and Cause Team. No further information is available at this time. A Northland Avenue party turned deadly on Friday night after a shooting resulted in the death of a Buffalo man. According to police, the incident occurred around 11:30pm. The 28-year-old man was shot during an argument. Upon receiving the 911, police responded to the scene. Despite life-saving measures, the victim was pronounced dead at the location. The victim's name has not been released to the public as next of kin are still being notified. There are no suspects in custody at this time. Niagara Falls Police responded to 27th Street around 8:30pm on September 4th after reports of a motor vehicle accident with airbag deployment. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the female driver of a white Toyota who stated she was traveling eastbound when a black Lincoln traveling westbound failed to stop at a stop sign and struck her vehicle. Officers observed both vehicles to have significant damage and airbag deployment. The black Lincoln was turned around. AMR and fire were already on scene prior to officers’ arrival. All parties involved declined medical treatment. Officers then made contact with the male driver of the black Lincoln who was observed to be unsteady and swaying back and forth. The male was asked where he was coming from and stated, “Logan steak house.” When prompted if he meant to say Longhorn Steakhouse, he said yes. The male admitted that he had “two” alcoholic beverages while there. While interacting with him, officers observed slurred speech and alcoholic beverage odor emanating from his breath. The male refused field sobriety testing, was placed in the rear of a patrol vehicle, and read his Miranda Warning and DWI refusal. He was issued traffic tickets for failing to stop at a stop sign, being an unlicensed operator, driving while intoxicated, and having no insurance on the vehicle. The black Lincoln was towed. Officers transported the male to police headquarters where he was booked, processed, and placed in a cell. No further information is available at this time. Niagara Falls Police responded to the 2500 block of Jerauld Avenue around 5pm on September 4th after reports of harassment that was later changed to criminal mischief. Upon arrival, officers made contact with the complainant who stated she has had a contentious relationship with a female neighbor across the street. The complainant stated that today at 4:30pm she observed the neighbor purposefully driving over her recycling and garbage bins that were by the street curb. It should be noted that the bins were left at the curb by Modern and the complainant had not went to retrieve them yet. Officers observed surveillance video of the female neighbor hitting the bins with her vehicle and observed damage to the bins. They then relocated across the street to speak with the female neighbor. She answered the door and stated, “she shouldn’t be doing that” in regards to having her bins in the street. After an admission of criminal conduct, the female neighbor was placed under arrest for damaging someone else’s property. She was placed in the rear of a patrol vehicle and transported to police headquarters for booking, processing, and was then released on an appearance ticket. The Buffalo Police Department is seeking public assistance in locating 24-year-old Justina M. Singer who has been reported missing. Authorities are urging anyone with information about her whereabouts to contact 911 immediately. Justina is described as a white female, approximately 5'4" tall, and weighing around 120 pounds. She has brown eyes, brown hair, and a large distinctive tattoo of wings on her back. It is believed that she may be in the area of Broadway and Bailey, but this has not been confirmed. Tragedy struck early Friday as a house fire claimed the life of one person and left another hospitalized. The fire broke out at approximately 4:30am at 557 Englewood Avenue and is believed to have been caused by a cigarette, according to the Town of Tonawanda Police. The victim who lost her life in the fire has been identified as 71-year-old Mary D. Rogers. Despite efforts to escape, Rogers was unable to make it out and was pronounced dead at the scene. The other resident of the house, a 75-year-old individual, was rescued by a passersby and shortly thereafter transported to ECMC for treatment due to smoke inhalation. The circumstances surrounding the fire are still under investigation. The Target store on Niagara Falls Boulevard has been forced to close indefinitely following an incident involving its sprinkler system. Amherst Police announced on Friday that the sprinkler system was unexpectedly activated throughout the store resulting in an estimated $25,000 worth of damage. Both the fire alarm and sprinkler system were triggered, resulting in Amherst Fire responding to the scene. Emergency crews arrived and confirmed that there was no active fire and no previous fire incidents had occurred prior to the sprinkler system. Amherst Fire Control shut down the alarm and sprinkler systems, which included closing the store. The indefinite closure is necessary to allow for the cleanup of water damage and sprinkler system repair. Authorities have not released any further information regarding the cause of the sprinkler system activation or the timeline for reopening the store. A woman has been accused of causing the death of her dog Eleanor by leaving it in a scorching hot car in Orchard Park. Joy A. Bickert, 49, pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor and a violation of the state Agriculture and Markets Law in Orchard Park Town Court on Tuesday night. The incident occurred on June 21st when Bickert took the dog, a 2-year-old mixed-breed bulldog named Eleanor, to a veterinarian in the Village of Hamburg at approximately 3:30pm. Prosecutors say that the dog was left inside a parked vehicle with its windows closed for several hours on Southwestern Boulevard. According to the National Weather Service the temperature reached a high of 93 degrees. After just one hour in the vehicle at that temperature, it would feel like 136 degrees inside of the vehicle. Bickert was released without bail and is scheduled to appear in court again on September 17th. Woman Kills Dog by Leaving it in Hot Vehicle

A man has been charged with criminal obstruction of breathing, along with several other charges, after allegedly strangling a female victim with a golf club on Wednesday night. The incident occurred around 10:30pm on Abbott Road near Brookview Terrace in Orchard Park. Police dispatch received multiple reports of a possible domestic altercation and that they saw a man carrying a "golf club in his hands." Upon arrival, officers were met by a female victim who claimed she had been assaulted and strangled with a golf club. The victim identified the suspect as 53-year-old Heath Snyder and informed officers that he was hiding in an upstairs crawl space within the residence, possibly armed with a weapon. Officers relocated upstairs and found Snyder in the crawl space where he was found brandishing a knife. Snyder refused to drop the knife and a crisis negotiator was called in for assistance. After several hours, Snyder eventually emerged from the crawl space and was taken into custody without further incident. Snyder now faces multiple charges including criminal obstruction of breathing, second-degree menacing, first-degree criminal contempt, and resisting arrest. Snyder was arraigned and remanded to the Erie County Holding Center pending a felony hearing. Suspect Strangles Woman with Golf Club, Threatens Police with Knife

Niagara Falls Police responded to Tops on Portage Road around 1pm on September 4th after reports of a suspicious vehicle. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the 911 caller who stated that they were watching the vehicle, a grey Ford F-150, on Cameras from Tops and observed what appeared to be a long gun inside the vehicle. The 911 caller further stated that the suspects were white males wearing yellow hoodies and black sweatpants. While searching the area, officers located the vehicle near the Coastal Gas Station on the 600 block of 19th Street and observed the matching description of a male leaving the vehicle (male #1). Officers detained that individual who gave a fake name. Fortunately, officers were able to ascertain his actual identity. He was placed under arrest for failing to identify himself correctly and lying about his identity. Another officer detained the driver (male #2) who gave officers permission to search the vehicle. While conducting the search, a henry repeating arms rifle was found in the vehicle. Detectives arrived on scene and took possession of the firearm.   Male #1 was transported to police headquarters for booking and processing where he was released with an appearance ticket. A Pennsylvania man who pleaded guilty to the statutory sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl from Grand Island was sentenced to 9-18 years in prison, according to an Erie County District Attorney's Office press release. Dale R. Kumler, 26, of Glen Rock, PA, received his sentence on Wednesday, September 4th in York County Court. The sentencing follows an agreement between Pennsylvania prosecutors, the victim, and her mother that resulted in dropping of a second-degree kidnapping charge that Kumler faced in exchange for his guilty plea. In addition to the statutory sexual assault charge, Kumler also pleaded guilty in May to corruption of minors and unlawful contact of minors. Kumler's criminal conduct was discovered when the teenage girl went missing in May of 2023. Investigators discovered that she had been in contact with an individual using the name "Dale" through Xbox video games. After an intense manhunt involving multiple law enforcement agencies, Kumler was apprehended less than 24 hours later. The victim was found at Kumler's residence. Pennsylvania Man Sentenced for Statutory Sexual Assault and Kidnapping of Grand Island Girl

Niagara Falls Police responded to the Quality Inn on the 7700 block of Niagara Falls Boulevard around 10am on September 4th after reports of a stolen electric bike. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the complainant who stated that her light blue colored electric bike was stolen off the bike rack on her vehicle last night between 10pm and 7am. Officers observed multiple bungy cords that were cut and damage to the bike rack (valued at $400) that was connected to the vehicle. There was a pair of scissors lying next to the vehicle which officers believed was used to remove the bike. Police secured the scissors in an evidence bag. Officers then spoke to the complainant’s boyfriend who stated that the electric bike was purchased a couple years prior and was valued at $999. There was a camera facing the entrance to the back parking lot where the vehicle was parked. Officers were able to review the camera footage with hotel staff. However, the vehicle was parked outside of view. The incident report did not state whether or not any suspicious persons were observed in the video. There are no suspects. Curtis L. Hall Jr., a 37-year-old resident of Buffalo, was sentenced to six months in jail after hitting and killing a pedestrian while driving under the influence of alcohol. The incident occurred on December 15th, 2023 when Hall struck 69-year-old Michael T. Cosgrove as he was crossing William Street in the City of Buffalo. Hall pleaded guilty to one count of criminally negligent homicide on May 21st, 2024. The Erie County District Attorney's Office said that this was the "most severe charge that could be sustained." In addition to his jail sentence, Hall will have his NYS driver's license revoked. Upon his release from jail (4 months with good behavior) he will also be placed on five years of probation. Niagara Falls Police responded the 500 block of 20th Street around 4:30pm on September 3rd after reports of criminal mischief. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the complainant who stated that there a window was smashed on his property. The complainant, who was a 91-year-old male, left his residence Friday August 30th at 12pm and returned today around 12pm. After entering the home he discovered that his bedroom window was broken. The complainant showed officers the broken window. He had already cleaned up the glass from the floor before police arrived. The male was visibly upset while officers were on scene. He stated that “in his 90 years of living at the residence, he had never had any altercations or damage done to his property.” He has no idea who would do this to his property, which he cherishes. Officers canvassed the area for any cameras that may have captured the incident with negative results. There are no suspects. A 15-year-old teenager from Buffalo has been charged with shooting at his father in the city's Kensington-Bailey neighborhood according to a news release from the Buffalo Police Department. The incident occurred on Tuesday. Police were called to the scene near Kensington and Thatcher avenues around 8:30pm after reports of gunfire. Witnesses informed officers that a 15-year-old had fired a shot at his father as the father attempted to flee. Fortunately, the father was not injured in the incident. With the assistance of the Erie County Sheriff's Office's Air 1 helicopter, authorities were able to track down the juvenile at a residence on Crossman Avenue approximately two miles away from the initial incident. During their search of the property, police discovered four loaded guns, including a Taurus GZC, a defaced M&P Shield, a Beretta APX, and a defaced AR pistol. The 15-year-old, whose identity has been withheld due to his age, has been charged with two felonies: second-degree criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment. In addition to the teenager, five other individuals were arrested at the same location. Some of their names have been withheld. The suspects whose names were released include a 16-year-old, a 17-year-old, Timothy Clemons (20), Malik Laporte (18), and James Paige (18). All five individuals from Buffalo have been charged with three counts of second-degree criminal possession of a weapon. Niagara Falls Police are currently investigating a hit-and-run crash involving a motorcycle that occurred on Pine Avenue on Tuesday evening. The incident, which left the motorcyclist injured, took place near the intersection of 19th Street and Pine Avenue. Officers responded to the scene at approximately 9:40pm on September 3rd following reports of the hit-and-run crash. The motorcyclist was found injured on the roadway. Niagara Falls Fire and an ambulance arrived shortly thereafter. The injured individual was quickly transported to the hospital for treatment of multiple injuries. None are believed to be life-threatening. Initially, the driver and vehicle involved in the crash fled the scene. However, a male later approached officers claiming to be the driver and stating that the car was parked down the street. He was detained for further questioning. Officers located the vehicle parked on the 1000 block of 19th Street. The driver was ultimately released but received tickets related to the incident. Niagara Falls Police are actively working to gather more information about the hit-and-run crash and asking anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward. Motorcyclist Injured in Hit-and-run Crash in Niagara Falls

The Rochester community is heartbroken after a family of four, including two young children, were found dead in what authorities are investigating as a homicide. Emergency personnel responded to a reported fire at a residence on Knapp Avenue in Irondequoit early Saturday morning only to discover that four occupants were already dead inside, but it was not the fire or smoke that killed them. Upon arrival, firefighters encountered flames engulfing the home. They were able to bring the fire under control and extinguish multiple fires throughout the house. During their search, crews found the deceased bodies of two adults and two children in the basement. The victims have been identified as 30-year-old Fraime Ubaldo, 26-year-old Marangely Moreno-Santiago, 4-year-old Evangeline Ubaldo-Moreno, and 2-year-old Sebastian Ubaldo-Moreno. The family had been residing in the home for several years. Irondequoit Police took over the investigation after deeming the circumstances suspicious. Chief Scott Peters confirmed that the causes of death have been determined but are not yet being disclosed to the public. However, he was clear that the victims' injuries were not consistent with those typically associated with a fire. Based on his comments, there is a strong possibility law enforcement believes the fire was set to cover up the four murders. "This is Labor Day. It's supposed to be a joyous time spending time off with your family. This family doesn't have that anymore," said Chief Peters. "This [case] will be resolved. This will be something our department will work on 100 percent. We won't stop until we do solve it." Niagara Falls Police responded to the 1900 block of Buffalo Avenue around 7pm on September 2nd after hearing gunshots. An officer was parked nearby and repositioned more towards 19th and Buffalo Avenue where the shots were coming from. Once at 19th street and Buffalo Avenue he heard several more shots. Dispatch was advised to send additional units as there were "numerous" continuing shots on the railroad tracks. The lone officer on-scene exited his vehicle and grabbed a department-issued rifle. He moved to the wood line and observed several males exit the railroad tracks and move through the high weeds toward his location. The officer approached closer giving the males verbal commands to get down on the ground. The front two suspects laid on their stomachs and were detained. Several males failed to comply. They turned around and ran back towards the railroad tracks. Responding officers were able to set up a perimeter where four additional suspects were detained. Altogether, a “large quantity” of shell casings were found on the railroad tracks. New York State Parks Police and ATF K9 handlers responded to the area to assist with locating the suspected firearms. The incident report did not state how many, if any, were recovered. Niagara Falls Police responded to the 3600 block of Sherwood Drive around 10:50pm on September 1st after reports of an unwanted person. Upon arrival officers observed a male outside of the female complainant’s home. The complainant explained to officers that the male was a family friend who had been residing at the residence with her. The male was “noticeably intoxicated, slurring his words and was emanating the smell of fruity alcoholic beverages,” according to the official police incident report. He continually spoke over officers and was extremely argumentative. Due to his behavior, he was detained and placed in the rear of a patrol vehicle. The complainant further explained that the male had not been living at the house for the last week. However, tonight he came to the house uninvited, pushed the air conditioner out of the window, and climbed through the window to gain entry into the home instead of just knocking on the door. The male had been warned in the past to not come to the house intoxicated because of how angry and violent he becomes. This has included previous threats of physical harm. After forcing his way into the home tonight he was asked to leave but refused. When the female complainant attempted to leave and distance herself from the male, he blocked her exit and refused to let her open the front door. After several attempts at pulling on the door and screaming at the top of her lungs she was able to escape to her vehicle and notify police. However, the male then followed her outside and stayed beside her car - preventing her from leaving the driveway. She told police that the male’s actions placed her in fear for her life and physical safety because of his actions and previous threats. The male was transported to police headquarters for booking and processing. He was uncooperative during the process and held for arraignment due to the request for an order of protection. Niagara Falls Police responded to the 1800 block of Linwood Avenue around 5pm on September 1st after reports of a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, officers observed multiple males in the backyard of the house and broken glass littering the entire porch. Officers advised all suspects not to move and to show their hands at which time a white male wearing all black grabbed both of his pants pockets and fled the scene running west down the alley. After running for a short time the suspect suddenly stopped. Holding both sides of his pants the entire time so they would not fall down made running difficult. As American Idol sensation General Larry Platt sang, " Pants on the ground, pants on the ground, Lookin' like a fool witcha pants on the ground." Officers advised the suspect to get on his stomach and place his hands behind his back. The suspect did comply with the orders and was placed under arrest. While searching his pockets, officers found a large quantity of cash totaling $2,242. He also had several baggies containing suspected narcotics that were seized and sent for testing. The male was transported to police headquarters for booking and processing. He was charged with two counts of obstruction of governmental administration and resisting arrest - all A Misdemeanors. Niagara Falls Police responded to the 1000 block of 93rd Street around 1:30pm on September 1st after reports of a burglary that was ultimately believed to be a false report / report that lacked any substantiating details. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the female complainant who stated that within the last three weeks an unknown suspect burglarized her residence. She then stated the suspect “could have” burglarized her residence within the last three days. She didn't really know. She stated the suspect entered the residence through the kitchen window located above the sink which was unsecured throughout the entire three week (or three day) period. However, she said there were no signs of forced entry. Further, that upon entering the home the suspect stole 6 tools valued at $1,000 that were in the dining room. The tools included an oscillating tool, 2 impact drills, a battery, an air nailer, and a finishing gun. The complainant could not state a reason as to why there was a delayed report if the crime took place three weeks beforehand as she stated. Officers notified police headquarters of the incident. Due to an unknown time frame, no signs of forced entry, no physical evidence, no cameras, and the occupants of the residence being known narcotics users, that the crime scene unit did not be respond to the scene. An alleged drunk driver collided with a New York State Police vehicle early Monday morning in Lockport, NY while troopers were in the process of arresting another individual for driving under the influence. The incident was announced by New York State Police on Tuesday. According to authorities, troopers noticed a vehicle stopped and facing south in the northbound lane on South Transit Road at approximately 1:18am. The driver, identified as 34-year-old Richard L. Morrow of Lockport, was found slumped over the steering wheel. Morrow failed several field sobriety tests and troopers detected the smell of alcohol emanating from his Dodge Charger. Morrow was placed under arrest and secured in the back of a marked police vehicle. He was charged with driving while intoxicated. While troopers were concluding their investigation into Morrow's case, a Kia driven by 25-year-old Elizabeth M. Pursey of Buffalo struck the police vehicle at the scene. Pursey was taken into custody and charged with driving while intoxicated in addition to multiple traffic infractions. Morrow sustained minor injuries and was transported to Lockport Memorial Hospital for treatment as a result of being in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Per reports and police radio, Mercy Flight was called to Middleport, NY on Tuesday September 3rd aruond 1:45pm after reports of an individual whose hand was severed. The injury is believed to have been sustained from a farming equipment related accident. However, it has not been confirmed what equipment or how it occurred. The individual was transported to ECMC for emergency surgery with hopes of having the hand reattached (if determined to be salvageable by doctors). The process, called limb replantation, is an extremely complex surgical procedure that, if successful, allows patients to have a severed extremety reattached to their body. The replantation needs to occur within hours of the injury taking place. We will provide an update if any additional information becomes available. Niagara Falls Police responded to Walmart on Military Road around 9pm on August 30th after reports of shoplifters. Upon arrival, store security advised officers that there were a few black females in the store acting suspiciously who have reportedly stolen from Walmart in the past. The females ended up checking out items in their cart through a self-checkout line. As the females were checking out, the camera above the register did show that they did not place all the items in their carts on the belt. After paying the cashier for multiple items, the females and a child that was with them walked past all points of purchase and exited the store. They were quickly approached by law enforcement and brought back into the store to loss prevention where an inventory of the items in their cart was taken. It was determined that four items were not paid for totaling $25.96. The females were charged with petit larceny and issued appearance tickets. Walmart did recover all stolen items. Niagara Falls Police responded to Family Dollar on the 800 block of Portage Road around 7:00pm on August 30th after reports of a shoplifter. Upon arrival, police spoke with the store manager who stated that an unknown black male entered the store and began placing various items into a large reusable grocery bag. The male then proceeded to leave the store without paying and entered a black Ford Taurus. The vehicle, which was being driven by a white male, fled in an unknown direction. While police were still on scene, other patrolling officers located the suspect vehicle which had broken down in the roadway within a few miles of the store. The Ford was unoccupied and appeared to have sustained damage to the front passenger wheel. The bag of stolen merchandise was not in the vehicle. Dispatch attempted to make contact with the registered owner of the vehicle but could not. The vehicle was towed due to causing an obstruction in the roadway. Officers canvassed the area looking for the suspect and his getaway driver with negative results. There are no known suspects. No further information is available at this time. A wrong-way collision on the Kensington Expressway in Buffalo resulted in the death of one driver and injuries to two others. Buffalo police reported on Tuesday morning that the driver of a Nissan Altima traveling in the wrong direction was declared dead at ECMC. The incident occurred on Monday night when the 26-year-old driver of the Nissan Altima was heading east on the Kensington Expressway. Police reports indicate that the driver collided head-on with a westbound vehicle near the Grider Street exit around 9:30pm. Police, fire and medical responded to the scene. Both drivers involved in the collision, as well as a passenger in the vehicle that was struck, were transported to ECMC for medical treatment. Police spokesman Michael DeGeorge stated in an email that the two occupants of the other vehicle are currently receiving treatment for injuries that do not appear to be life-threatening. The driver of the Nissan Altima, identified as 26-year-old Grant Beyer from Williamsville, was transported to ECMC by ambulance but was soon thereafter pronounced dead. The funds are part of a larger pool of nearly $150 million in capital grants awarded to support 37 projects in underserved communities throughout the state. This initiative, known as the New York Statewide Investment in More Swimming (NY SWIMS), aims to enhance access to safe swimming facilities for families across New York. The $400,949 allocated for Niagara Falls will be used for various renovations at Center Court Pool. The project includes the replacement of the pool lining, installation of new main drain covers, and the implementation of a new filtration system. The incident occurred in West Seneca on Nina Terrace near the intersection of East and West Roads. At approximately 3:40pm, police responded to a report of an injury accident involving a vehicle that had struck a tree while exiting the neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers discovered a Toyota Sedan with significant front-end damage and deployed airbags. Superintendent Sean Croft was found in the driver's seat and allegedly exhibited several signs of intoxication as stated by law enforcement officials. Croft underwent several field sobriety tests and he reportedly failed them all. He was taken into custody and transported to the West Seneca Police station. However, Croft refused to undergo a breath test to determine his BAC. Witnesses at the scene stated that Croft was awake and talking after the crash. It was also visibly apparent that he sustained injuries to his arm and head. Croft was overheard claiming that the accident was the result of swerving to avoid hitting a squirrel. After booking and processing, Croft was released on appearance tickets for the charges of driving while intoxicated, moving from lane unsafely, and imprudent speed. He is scheduled to appear in court in mid-September to address the charges. Two individuals were transported to the hospital following a two-vehicle crash on Niagara Falls Boulevard in the evening hours of Monday, September 2nd. The incident occurred just after 7:30pm. According to reports, a Honda CRV was traveling westbound on Niagara Falls Boulevard when it ran a red light. Simultaneously, a Ford Edge was exiting the thruway onto Niagara Falls Boulevard. The two vehicles collided causing the Honda to overturn. The driver of the Ford Edge did not require medical attention at the scene. However, two out of the three occupants in the Honda CRV sustained injuries. Both individuals were transported to the hospital by ambulance for further evaluation and treatment. Troopers received a call around 8:30pm reporting possible shots fired between the midway and concert area at Suburban Park. Shortly after the initial call, a second report of possible shots fired at an eatery building was received by the State Police. Troopers swiftly responded to both incidents and conducted a thorough investigation. However, no evidence of shots fired or any injuries were found. Concerned about the safety of fairgoers, the New York State Fair announced on social media at 9:40pm that the fair would be closing early after consulting with law enforcement. Governor Kathy Hochul, who was briefed on the situation, expressed gratitude to the New York State Police and other law enforcement agencies for their swift response. Early indications suggest that the reports of shots fired was a false alarm and no injuries have been reported. A traffic complaint made to the authorities on Sunday, September 1st, 2024, led to the arrest of a woman under Leandra's Law. The Niagara County Sheriff's Office received the complaint and immediately dispatched deputies to investigate. Deputy Strehlow located the vehicle in question and observed it operating in violation of the NY Vehicle and Traffic Laws. A traffic stop was initiated on the 3700 block of Coomer Road in the Town of Newfane. Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were conducted on the driver, identified as 44-year-old Kristi L. McGrew from the Town of Newfane. The tests indicated impairment leading to her arrest. McGrew now faces charges of Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated under Leandra's Law, a felony offense. Additionally, she was charged with Endangering the Welfare of a Child, a misdemeanor, as well as Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle and several other Vehicle and Traffic Law violations. Following her arrest, McGrew was taken to the Niagara County Jail to await Centralized Arraignment proceedings. A parent responded to the scene and took custody of the 15-year-old passenger. Leandra's Law, also known as the Child Passenger Protection Act, was enacted in New York State to combat drunk driving and protect the lives of young passengers. The law makes it a felony to drive under the influence with a child under the age of 16 in the vehicle. Traffic Complaint Leads to Leandra's Law Arrest, Possibly Saved 15-year-old's Life

A tragic incident unfolded this past week on 57th Street in Niagara Falls as police were contacted after a reported hit-and-run involving a puppy. Security cameras captured several images of the vehicle and female driver as it left the scene. Michele Religa, the puppy's owner, took to Facebook and posted about the incident (see above): "Please be on the look out for this car that has a smashed back window it is a grey Small SUV. License plate starts with JDL ... she left the scene after killing our puppy. She stopped down the street she knew what she did and when we told her to stop she took off!! Please share!!" As of today the unknown female suspect has not been identified. The smashed back window of her SUV should assist in someone providing useful information that can help law enforcement in this investigation. The puppy's family is seeking justice and that the female motorist be held responsible for her actions. Under NY Vehicle and Traffic Law § 601, if someone hit a dog they must inform the owner or custodian of the animal or police and give that person the following information: Name Address Proof of insurance, including the carrier's name and effective dates of the policy License number In addition, they must make a reasonable effort to make sure the animal receives appropriate attention. In essence, this means that the motorist must stop, either call the police or find the dog's owner, and then provide personal information as outlined above. Failure to do so can result in fines. On August 31, 2024, Traffic Officers from the Niagara Falls Police Department's Crash Investigation Unit continued to investigate the hit & run crash from 22nd Street & Willow Avenue. Based upon information from multiple witnesses, Daniel KT Wijesiriwardena Age 19, was arrested and is being charged with multiple felonies. Wijesiriwardena is being held in custody and is being arraigned in Niagara Falls City Court on Sunday September 1st. The victim is still in critical condition in the Trauma ICU at ECMC. His name is continuing to be withheld at the request of the family. ORIGINAL RELEASE On August 30, 2024, at approximately 8:38 pm, Niagara Falls Police responded to a call of a bicyclist down in the road at 22nd St. and Willow Ave. At the scene, officers discovered a 43-year-old Niagara Falls man with serious injuries. It appears the bicyclist was traveling south on 22nd St. when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle on Willow Ave. The striking vehicle fled the scene without stopping. The victim was transported to Erie County Medical Center, where he is currently in critical but stable condition. The Crash Investigation Unit is continuing the investigation. An Angola man has been handed an indeterminate sentence of 3 to 9 years for his role in a fatal crash that took the life of a Hamburg woman earlier this year. Anthony Rydzewski, 41, was found guilty of causing a crash in Hamburg that resulted in the death of 37-year-old Jenny Zuhlke, a dedicated daycare center worker at Lakeview Children's World. The incident occurred on February 28th around 11:30am when Rydzewski was driving recklessly at a high speed on Route 5 in Hamburg. His vehicle collided with the one driven by Zuhlke who was pronounced dead at the scene. Following the crash, Rydzewski was taken to Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) to receive treatment for his injuries. Initially, he had indicated his willingness to cooperate with the investigation. However, he later fled to Pennsylvania, according to the police. In April, he was located in Crawford County, Pennsylvania, and subsequently returned to Western New York by the Hamburg police. In July, Rydzewski pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter without the possibility of a reduced plea. Zuhlke, a beloved member of the Lakeview Children's World daycare center, had dedicated a decade of her life to caring for the infants there. The tragic accident occurred as she was on her way to work, less than a mile away from the daycare center. She will be remembered her vibrant personality and would often sing and dance around the daycare bringing joy to both the children and her colleagues. A devastating fire engulfed a barn in the Town of Cambria on Saturday resulting in a total loss. The incident, which also involved reported explosions, prompted the response of the air base FAST team. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire. Firefighters swiftly responded to a call reporting smoke at 5829 Comstock Road around 11:18am. According to a news release from the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, there were no individuals inside the barn at the time of the fire and the livestock managed to escape unharmed. Fire officials, communicating through a scanner, mentioned that multiple vehicles were stored within the barn. Explosions were reported leading to a request for assistance from the air base FAST team. By 1:10pm, the fire appeared to be mostly extinguished although extensive overhaul efforts were necessary to ensure complete extinguishment. The cause of the fire remains unknown at this time. On August 30, 2024, at approximately 8:38 pm, Niagara Falls Police responded to a call of a bicyclist down in the road at 22nd St. and Willow Ave. At the scene, officers discovered a 43-year-old Niagara Falls man with serious injuries. It appears the bicyclist was traveling south on 22nd St. when he was struck by an eastbound vehicle on Willow Ave. The striking vehicle fled the scene without stopping. The victim was transported to Erie County Medical Center, where he is currently in critical but stable condition. The Crash Investigation Unit is continuing the investigation.
