The Genesee County Sheriff's Office announced on Friday night that an arrest had been made at a Chris Stapleton concert held last month at the Darien Lake Amphitheater. A jackknifed semi-trailer on Friday night resulted in the closure of I-190 North beyond Exit 16 in Tonawanda, according to the Niagara International Transportation Technology Coalition (NITTEC). A 37-year-old man from Tonawanda was arrested on Wednesday and charged with child sex crimes, as well as possessing over a dozen illegal assault weapons, according to an announcement by the New York State Police. Yungbluth was found to allegedly possess child pornography, leading to his arrest. A search warrant was subsequently executed at his residence in Tonawanda where law enforcement officials recovered over 30 pieces of computer evidence that will be examined for child pornography. 13 unregistered assault weapons, along with over 85 large-capacity ammunition feeding devices, were also seized. It was revealed that Yungbluth holds a valid New York State pistol permit and has multiple handguns registered to his name. On August 16, 2024, The Niagara County Sheriff’s Office Communications Center received calls reporting that a vehicle had crashed into the building at WNY Urology located at 3850 Saunders Settlement Road in the Town of Cambria. Niagara Falls Police responded to the Centre Court Pool on the 1500 block of Centre Avenue around 10:00am on August 14th after reports of an unwanted persons complaint. While en route, officers were advised that four male parties jumped inside the fenced area of the city pool and were swimming. Upon arrival, officers observed four males inside of the fenced area who were actively trying to leave when they saw the patrol vehicle. It is believed based on the police report that all of the individuals were teenagers. The males ran into the neighboring yards. At this point, officers were not going to pursue any further action.   Shortly afterwards, officers were called back to the area due to the same males harassing the 911 caller. Officers made contact with the males at the playground, which is adjacent to the Centre Court pool. Two of the males immediately took off on bicycles and the other two were taken into custody. Due to the city pool being closed, gated and locked, officers charged them with criminal trespass 3rd, which is a Class B misdemeanor (punishable by up to 90 days in county jail). Niagara Falls Police responded to the 2700 block of Orleans Avenue around 2:00pm on August 12th after reports of a male threatening a female with a knife and violating an active order of protection. While en route, dispatch advised officers that the caller stated a male was at her residence door and confirmed an active stay away order of protection safeguarding her from said male. Upon arrival, officers spoke to the complainant who stated that the male was outside of her residence trying to get into the house while waving a knife at her. She then showed officers video of the incident that corroborated her account. In an effort to protect herself, the complainant ran to her vehicle, got in her car and drove away. However, the male stole a bicycle from her property and followed as she called 911. While following her, the male found a piece of wood and hit the rear-driver side panel above the wheel well multiple times causing around $750 in damage. The male then went towards Gill Creek Park and she returned to her residence. Law enforcement arrived minutes afterward. A Niagara Falls man has been charged with illegally selling firearms, including a machine gun, to a police informant over an eight-week period this summer. Dayzon McCarthy, 21, faces charges of trafficking in firearms and illegal transfer of a machine gun, according to federal court records filed by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The ATF Task Force officers, while conducting a covert operation, observed McCarthy selling handguns, including a ghost gun with a machine gun conversion switch that allowed it to function as a fully automatic weapon. The transactions took place on June 20th, June 28th, July 3rd, and August 12th in Niagara Falls. The police informant, under the watchful eyes of the ATF Task Force, made the purchases. According to an affidavit signed by ATF Task Force Officer Jonathan Andres, McCarthy has a prior conviction for second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, a felony, in Niagara County Court in 2021. He served a two-year prison sentence for the offense. In a related case, another Niagara Falls man, Dustin McCarthy, 43, was also charged by the ATF Task Force with trafficking in firearms. Dustin McCarthy allegedly sold a 9mm pistol to a police informant for $700 on July 23, 2024, while being monitored by ATF Task Force officers. A former Buffalo firefighter has been sentenced to 10 years' probation after being convicted of sharing illegal images of children online, per acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane. Jose R. DeJesus, 40, pleaded guilty in May to one count of promoting a sexual performance by a child, a Class D felony. Erie County Court Judge Suzanne Maxwell Barnes also ordered DeJesus to register as a sex offender. Prosecutors revealed that DeJesus possessed illicit photos and videos of children and shared an image through a website in January 2022. Niagara Falls Police were patrolling on known gun violence locations throughout the city around 12:00pm on August 10th when officers observed a black Chevy Tahoe with dark-tinted windows passed by them. A traffic stop was initiated and the vehicle complied. As the officers exited the vehicle, the front seat passenger stopped out of the vehicle holding the front of his pants. Specifically, he had a large bulge in his pants. The male was ordered to stop and, before any other instructions could be given, the male began to flee on foot. Officers retreated to the patrol vehicle and followed the male. As the male was running, officers tried ordering the male to stop, which he refused.   The patrol vehicle cut off the male’s running path and, as he abruptly stopped to run around the vehicle, officers began chasing him and yelled, “taser, taser, taser.” Still trying to flee, the male abruptly tripped over his own feet causing him to fall on his face. While on the ground, he was told not to move. Both officers assisted in grabbing his wrists so that handcuffs could be applied. The bulge that was observed in his pants was removed, revealing a white plastic bag containing what appeared to be narcotics.   The male was taken into custody and the suspected narcotics were collected for testing. A 22-year-old man from North Tonawanda has admitted to conspiracy to commit bank fraud after he and a co-defendant used over 500 stolen bank cards for gas purchases, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. Kingsley Brown and his co-defendant, Cross Malik Williams, purchased approximately 570 stolen bank cards online and used a card-making device to load the stolen banking information onto blank plastic bank cards with magnetic strips, enabling them to make purchases using the victims' funds. The stolen bank card information was not only used by Brown and Williams but also by others to purchase gas for various individuals. Brown and Williams would then receive payment for the gas at a reduced cost compared to the original price. As part of his plea agreement, Brown accepted responsibility for $192,673 of the total loss incurred. Williams, who has already been convicted, is currently awaiting sentencing. Brown now faces a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison. His sentencing is scheduled for December 11th. The female tried multiple times to find a means to pay the tab with no success. She was then placed into handcuffs and escorted to a patrol vehicle. The following day, the Erie County District Attorney's Office announced the arrest of six individuals in connection with the case. Jared M. Adamski, a resident of Hamburg, admitted in a plea deal that he was the one who stabbed Benoit, while Harrison J. Drozen, hailing from North Carolina, and Conner Krone assisted in the ambush, which was orchestrated based on a false accusation. Kayleigh A. Trane, a 30-year-old resident of Hamburg, has been sentenced for his involvement in a tragic two-vehicle crash that claimed the life of a 15-year-old girl in 2023, according to the Erie County District Attorney's office. Trane was handed a six-month jail sentence, followed by five years of probation. The incident occurred on the evening of August 20th, 2023, at the intersection of Quinby Drive and McKinley Parkway in Hamburg. Trane, operating a van, disregarded a red light and collided with a car driven by 18-year-old Dylan Wiza of Williamsville. Tragically, a 15-year-old girl who was a passenger in Wiza's vehicle lost her life as a result of the crash. Another 16-year-old girl in the car sustained injuries and was treated at Oishei Children's Hospital. Investigations later revealed that Trane was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. In May, he pleaded guilty to one count of vehicular manslaughter. In addition to his jail time and probation, Trane's driver's license has been revoked. If his license is reinstated in the future, he will be required to have an ignition interlock device installed for one year. Niagara Falls Police responded to the 6000 block of Devlin Avenue around 11:45am on August 9th after reports of an active assault with a weapon. Upon arrival, officers observed a black male (male #1) in a bloodied white t-shirt waving his arms around and running towards the patrol vehicle. He appeared disoriented and out of breath, exclaiming that the suspect was in the backyard with his girlfriend. Officers observed a white female in the southern corner of a fenced in backyard who was crying and appeared to be very frightened. However, they also observed another black male (male #2) wearing a United States flag shirt in the backyard. Officers placed him in handcuffs and searched him for weapons with negative results. An additional half-dozen law enforcement personal arrived on scene to assist in the investigation. Officers observed a small laceration on male #2’s face in addition to a large-skinned area on the back of his head. Niagara Falls Fire arrived and treated his wounds. He did not wish to go to a hospital for treatment. While the investigation was continuing, a white 2006 Saturn arrived on scene. Both individuals who exited the vehicle were detained by officers and interviewed. Officers were advised to transported male #2 to police headquarters to be interviewed by detectives. Niagara Falls Police responded to the 2200 block of Walnut Avenue around 9:30am on August 9th after reports of a fight. Upon arrival, officers spoke to a male who stated that he lived at the residence with his girlfriend. Heartbroken, he stated that his girlfriend’s brothers were kicking him out of the house because the girlfriend did not want him there anymore. The male told police that he would take his personal belongings and leave the residence. He was escorted into the house by officers to grab his belongings. Once inside the residence, the male threw a sucker punch at one of the brothers right in front of officers. He was then dragged out of the home, handcuffed, and taken into custody. A Sanborn teenager has pleaded guilty to vehicular manslaughter for her involvement in a devastating crash that claimed the life of a passenger, as announced by the Niagara County District Attorney's Office. Ninaatikwe A. Hamby, 19, admitted to driving while under the influence of cannabis when the accident occurred in the early morning hours of February 25th at the intersection of Walmore and Upper Mountain Roads. According to officials, the vehicle, traveling northbound on Walmore failed to stop at a stop sign resulting in the collision. Tragically, the crash resulted in the death of a 20-year-old male who was seated in the backseat of the vehicle. The victim was not only a passenger but also a family member of Hamby. A 27-year-old male who occupied the front seat suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to ECMC for treatment. All three occupants of the vehicle were residents of the Tuscarora Reservation. "The outcome of Ms. Hamby's decision to drive while under the influence of cannabis was the death of a family member," expressed Niagara County District Attorney Brian Seaman in a press release. "It cannot be emphasized enough how dangerous it is to drive under the influence of marijuana. In this case, the result is the complete devastation of a family." Niagara Falls Police responded to Jaco's Pizza on the 7200 block of Buffalo Avenue around 10:00pm on August 8th after reports of a customer dispute and criminal mischief.   Upon arrival, officers attempted to enter through the front door, but it was locked. While there, they observed a white substance smeared on the front door which was later explained to be saliva from the suspect. As officers turned the corner to utilize another door, they observed a black female throwing two hanging plants from the outside dining area at the restaurant. She did cause property damage totaling $30. It was not noted why the female became so irate. Did the bar cut her off? Was her pizza cold? Did they not have boneless wings? Niagara Falls Police responded to One Stop Food Mart on the 1000 block of Cleveland Avenue around 2:30pm on August 8th after reports of a robbery.   Officers were patrolling the north end of the city when a police captain flagged them down for a robbery that just occurred. The store owner stated that the suspect entered the store without shoes on, which is not allowed. The suspect was asked to leave and refused, instead heading to the juice cooler where he took a juice out and started to drink it. The owner again told the suspect to leave the store, but he then grabbed a beer from the beer cooler. The owner stated that he tried to stop the suspect, but he began to exit the store with the beer without rendering payment. The owner followed him outside of the store and tried to take back the drinks by force. He was unsuccessful and a physical altercation took place.   Officers relocated to a nearby area where the suspect was sitting on a railing. He was placed in handcuffs and placed in the rear of a patrol vehicle. He was transported back to the store for positive identification. The suspect was then transported to police headquarters for booking and processing. Niagara Falls Police responded to Tops on Niagara Falls Boulevard around 2:30pm on August 8th after reports of a shoplifter.   Upon arrival, a male shoplifter was detained in the loss prevention office. An employee told officers that the male attempted to conceal two packages of steal in his bookbag and walk out without rendering payment. Additionally, the male had violated a trespass notice as he was previously caught stealing from Tops. The male, seeking to have a delicious meal on a grill for dinner, ended up empty handed. Although he did not get to eat steak like he wanted, the male still might've ended up with a free meal - a culinary delicacy served at the Niagara Falls Jail. The total value of the items taken was $38.12.   The male was placed in the rear of a patrol vehicle and transported to police headquarters for booking and processing. Niagara Falls Police responded to Walmart on Military Road around 1:40pm on August 8th after reports of a shoplifter.   Upon arrival, an officer was already on scene completing a trespass notice. According to the asset protection investigator, the male suspected was observed stealing candy and hair dye, concealing them down his pants and underwear (added support so the candy wouldn't fall out). The male then passed all points of purchase to exit the store. At no time was the male permitted to steal said items and stuff them in his pants/underwear, said the asset protection investigator. The male was taken into custody and transported to police headquarters for booking and processing. He was issued and appearance ticket and released. On August 12th, 2024 at 17:16 Hours, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office Dispatch Center received a call reporting a detached garage fire at 6461 Phillips Road in the Town of Newfane. Niagara County Sheriff's Deputies responded and confirmed the garage was engulfed in flames and was quickly spreading to three cars in the driveway and to the residence. All occupants of the residence were able to safely evacuate. The fire was subsequently extinguished by members of the Olcott, Miller Hose, and Wilson Volunteer Fire Companies. The residence, garage, and vehicles in the driveway sustained extensive fire damage. No injuries were reported. An investigation into the cause of the fire by the Niagara County Fire Investigation Unit is underway. THE MOST WESTERN NEW YORK CRIME THAT DIDN'T TAKE PLACE IN WESTERN NEW YORK A food service director for Harvey School District 152 in south suburban Illinois has pleaded guilty to stealing approximately $1.5 million worth of food, primarily chicken wings. Vera Liddell, who had been employed by the district for over a decade, was accused by Cook County prosecutors of orchestrating a scheme to pilfer large quantities of food intended for take-home meals for students during the pandemic. According to court documents, Liddell entered a guilty plea on Friday and has been sentenced to nine years in prison. The fraudulent activities came to light during a routine mid-year audit conducted by the district's business manager. The audit revealed that the district was $300,000 over its annual food service budget, despite being only halfway through the school year. The investigation uncovered that Liddell had ordered more than 11,000 cases of chicken wings from the district's food provider and had been picking up the orders using a district cargo van. The food, however, was never delivered to the school or provided to the students. District funds were used to pay for the stolen food, although the fate of the chicken wings remains undisclosed. The scheme was exposed when the business manager discovered invoices signed by Liddell for substantial quantities of chicken wings, which would be a food an item never served to students due to the presence of bones. Employees of the district's food provider, Gordon Food Service, were reportedly familiar with Liddell due to the excessive amount of chicken wings she would regularly purchase. Harvey School District 152, which serves an impoverished community, consists of five schools with a total enrollment of 1,600 children of which over 80% qualify as "low income."   The district's interim superintendent, Lela Bridges, acknowledged the charges but declined to comment further due to the ongoing investigation. Liddell is currently in custody at the Cook County Jail with a bond set at $150,000. On August 8th around 11:00am a female entered police headquarters inquiring about a lost phone. While the officer was checking on the lost phone, he noticed that the female had an outstanding warrant for domestic violence ("DV”) paperwork. The officer received the DV paperwork and proceeded to the lobby to inform the female of her warrant. He asked the female to follow him to the booking area and that he would give her the information on the lost phone on their walk. When he told her, she became irate. "No, I don’t have a warrant. I was just in court,” she said. Police then advised the female as to the nature of the warrant being DV-related and that he was holding the paperwork in his hand. The female responded, "I am not going to jail. You’re going to have to beat my ass,” and attempted to walk past the officer out of the building. The officer physically blocked her from exiting and advised her that she would "only make matters worse” and possibly accrue "more charges” if she resisted. The female responded again, "you’re gonna have to beat my ass” and further retreated into the lobby and away from the officer. Two court officers came out to assist and the female was advised to place her hands behind her back because she was under arrest. She ran to the corner of the lobby where an officer grabbed her wrist. Police used force to subdue the female at this time, but there were no details of what occurred in the report. As the female was being escorted to the booking area, she yelled for officers to "get off me,” to "suck my di*k,” and "your breath smells like pus*y.” Once inside the booking area she continued to scream at officers and started to push back against them with her body weight. Officers pinned the female up against the booking counter where she kicked an officer in the right hip and left thigh. Police utilized force again to subdue the her.   The female was placed in a holding cell and waited to be arraigned. Upon arrival, officers spoke to an employee of community missions who stated that while working he observed a white male on the premises overnight trying to open doors inside the hallway. Overnight employees told the male not to come back. In the morning, employees watched as the male walked into the building and proceeded to urinate on the ground. After being asked to leave, he refused. Officers informed the male, who was still on the property, to leave numerous times. He refused and told officers multiple times to “fuc* off.” He was then taken into custody and transported to police headquarters for booking and processing where he was released with an appearance ticket. Screenshots from WKBW A tragic crash at the intersection of Clinton Street and Borden Road on Sunday night claimed the life of a West Seneca woman and charges are anticipated against the driver responsible, according to a Facebook post by the West Seneca Police Department. The victim, identified as Irene Mair, 76, was pronounced dead at Erie County Medical Center (ECMC) following the collision, which involved her Dodge minivan and a Toyota driven by Alan Bulera, 48, of Cheektowaga. Preliminary investigations conducted by the West Seneca Police, along with witness accounts, indicate that Bulera was traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Clinton Street as he approached the Borden intersection. The impact of the collision caused Mair's minivan to be pushed into three unoccupied vehicles in the parking lot of Kling Brothers Auto Service and Collision Repair. Both Mair and Bulera were found unconscious and unresponsive by West Seneca Police Officer Matthew Greenan and first responders. Bulera's Toyota RAV4 was overturned at the scene. Mair was immediately transported to ECMC where she was tragically pronounced dead. Bulera, on the other hand, was also taken to ECMC and is currently listed in serious but stable condition as of Monday afternoon. The West Seneca Police Department has been in contact with the Erie County District Attorney's Office, and charges are expected to be filed against Bulera pending the outcome of the investigation. Authorities are urging any witnesses to the crash or individuals with dashcam footage to come forward and provide information to the West Seneca Police Accident Investigation Unit. Niagara Falls Police responded to the 400 block of 17th Street around 7:30pm on August 6th after reports of a hit and run with significant property damage. Upon arrival, officer Jordan Collins observed a black 2013 Ford Edge SUV facing southbound with rear-end damage. A motorist old police that the black Mercedes crashed into the back of his vehicle prior to fleeing the scene. The responding officer observed a hood ornament left at the scene along with black plastic. The radiator of the Mercedes clearly ruptured as there was a large amount of fluid in the roadway. The fluid trail led police to Niagara and 12th Street before it dissipated. Officers then viewed surveillance footage which showed the crash occurring. The same officer was contacted at police headquarters the following day by the complainant stating that multiple people on the street directed him to a black 2006 Mercedes Benz that was parked nearby. A check of multiple ALPR systems showed the Mercedes driving on August 3rd with no damage and on August 6th with the front hood crumpled up. The officer relocated to the location of the vehicle and located the Mercedes in the driveway matching the damage and missing the hood ornament. He spoke with someone at the residence who stated that his “cousin Chris” was operating the vehicle and claimed to have no further knowledge of him. The officer then explained to the male that he would have to provide Chris’s identity and/or he would have to report the incident to his NYS parole officer.   When the responding officer reported for work on August 8th, he had a voicemail from a male admitting responsibility for the hit-and-run. The male stated that he was distracted by his oxygen tank causing him to strike the Ford. He was issued multiple traffic tickets returnable at Niagara Falls City Court. Niagara Falls Police responded to DiCamillo’s Bakery on the 800 block of Linwood Avenue around 10:30am on August 7th after reports of an unwanted person. Police spoke to an employee who stated that a male came in and was irate. He wandered around yelling, swearing and causing patrons to be alarmed . When he exited, the male began to follow a mail lady. He yelled at the individual and made her feel uncomfortable, not to mention annoyed. The male was located on the corner of Linwood and Main Street. He was taken into custody after a physical struggle where force was utilized. There was no description of the force used in the police report. He was transported down the street to police headquarters for booking and processing. Once there, officers filled out a 9.41 Mental Health Law paperwork on the male for a mental evaluation. A North Tonawanda man is now facing the possibility of up to five years in federal prison after pleading guilty to posting a threatening video on Facebook in which he threatened to carry out a school shooting. Daniel Damon Kuhar, 29, entered his guilty plea on Thursday, according to court records. The incident came to light when the North Tonawanda Police Department contacted the FBI on February 2nd, 2024, reporting that Kuhar had posted a disturbing video on his Facebook account the day before. The video depicted high school students at a dance being shot by an automatic firearm as described in a criminal complaint filed by the FBI. In the video, an audio track can be heard with a voice asking, "Damon, where are you?" Kuhar responds, "I'm walking into my high school." The voice then pleads, "Don't do it," to which Kuhar replies, "You don't understand, they ruined my life. Now I'm going to ruin their night," according to the criminal complaint. The video then transitions to security camera footage showing a shooter entering The Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee, where three students and three staff members were tragically killed in a shooting incident in March 2023. The video, titled "Memes to Be Murdered By," concludes with the date "11/26/24" displayed on the screen. Prior to uploading the video, Kuhar had made a concerning post on his Facebook account on January 28th stating, "I don't get mad. I take all that anger and I think of ways I could kill that person in the most brutal way possible and I put it in one of my videos." A Cheektowaga man has been sentenced to five years in prison following a botched pawn shop robbery that resulted in a shootout with employees. Acting Erie County District Attorney Michael J. Keane announced the sentencing of Jaquail A. Yamani, 30, who pleaded guilty to multiple charges related to the incident. Erie County Court Judge Sheila A. DiTullio also ordered five years of supervision for Yamani upon his release from prison. In June, Yamani pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree attempted robbery as well as single counts of first-degree attempted assault, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and second-degree attempted robbery. The incident occurred on May 1, 2023, at a pawn shop located in the 1100 block of Walden Avenue. Prosecutors stated that gunfire erupted when Yamani brought a laptop computer and a Bluetooth speaker to the shop for pawn. As the items were being examined, Yamani allegedly held a gun to the head of a store employee. However, the employee managed to push the gun away, retreat to the back of the store and retrieve his own firearm. A shootout ensued involving Yamani, an unidentified accomplice, the store employee, and a co-worker. Fortunately, no store employees were injured during the exchange of gunfire. However, later that day Yamani sought treatment for a gunshot wound at St. Vincent's Hospital in Erie, Pennsylvania. Through surveillance video, license plate readers, and the laptop left behind at the shop, authorities were able to link Yamani to the attempted robbery. The botched pawn shop robbery not only endangered the lives of the store employees but also disrupted the peace and safety of the community. The swift action and collaboration of law enforcement agencies played a crucial role in identifying and apprehending Yamani. He fondly remembered their last interaction where he showed her his new truck and they had a heartfelt conversation.
