- Former Buffalo Bills Cheerleader Reveals 'Strict' Rules from Disbanded Squad Over a Decade Later
More than ten years after the Buffalo Jills disbanded, a former cheerleader has come forward to share the strict regulations that members of the squad had to follow. Shana Klimeczko, who cheered for the Buffalo Bills during the 2005-2006 season, spoke with PEOPLE about her experiences, shedding light on the intense tryouts and the specific grooming standards that were enforced. The timing clearly to capitalize on the Bills being in the AFC Championship game. The Buffalo Jills, the official cheerleading squad for the Buffalo Bills, have not been on the sidelines since 2014 following a lawsuit filed by former cheerleaders alleging misclassification as independent contractors and violations of minimum wage laws. The lawsuit, which involved over 50 cheerleaders, was settled in March 2022 with the Bills and Cumulus Media agreeing to pay a total of $7.5 million. Despite the resolution, the cheerleading team has not returned, and most likely never will. Klimeczko described her time as a Buffalo Jill as a dream. She was not involved in the lawsuit. She emphasized that cheerleading was not a lucrative endeavor, stating, "You don't do it for the money." The former cheerleader recounted the rigorous tryout process, which she described as "intense." Candidates were evaluated not only on their choreography but also on their overall appearance, including fitness, hair, and smile. The rules governing the squad were strict. Cheerleaders were required to wear their hair down and styled with specific makeup and nail colors mandated. Klimeczko noted that red lipstick and pink, French, or clear nails were essential and failure to comply could result in being benched for game day. Additionally, cheerleaders had to maintain a sun-kissed appearance often achieved through spray tans. Being pale and white meant being out of sight (as in not on the sidelines). Physical fitness was paramount, as Klimeczko explained that cheerleaders were judged on their appearance and how well their uniforms fit. The squad also enforced a no-fraternization policy with NFL players to prevent distractions during games. Klimeczko recalled an incident where the squad had to leave a bar after interacting with players from another team. When not in uniform, the Buffalo Jills had to follow a dress code for public appearances often wearing business casual attire. Despite the demanding nature of the role, Klimeczko emphasized that cheerleaders were allowed to hold other jobs as the pay for appearances and game days was minimal. She recalled earning $75 for three hours on game day and $5 for each calendar sold. The lack of pay underscores that the experience was more about passion than profit. Reflecting on her time as a Buffalo Jill, Klimeczko expressed pride in her role and the opportunity to serve as a role model for younger fans. "You are like a local celebrity," she said. The Buffalo Jills NFL Cheerleaders Alumni Association continues the spirit of the squad ensuring that their legacy lives on. - North Tonawanda Common Council Demands Investigation into Mayor Austin Tylec's Abuse of Power
In a troubling display of power, North Tonawanda Mayor Austin Tylec has come under fire for involving local police in a personal vendetta against a resident over a spoof Facebook page that criticizes him. Tylec's actions, which included dispatching two uniformed officers to question Jacob Quinn, an employee at Restful Sleepin’, raise serious concerns about the abuse of authority by an elected official. As a result of Tylec's actions, members of the North Tonawanda Common Council sent a letter to City Attorney Edward A. Zebulske demanding an investigation into the matter. LETTER Dear Mr. Zebulske, The North Tonawanda Common Council is deeply alarmed by the allegations raised against Mayor Austin J. Tylec during the January 21st council meeting. As publicly confirmed by both the Mayor and the Chief of Police, two officers visited the workplace of a private citizen on Tuesday morning to question them about their potential connection to an obscure satirical Facebook page parodying the Mayor. Following this incident, the individual reported to the Common Council, alleging that Mayor Tylec may have “weaponized the North Tonawanda Police Department” as an act of political retaliation. The Common Council is greatly disturbed by the possibility that taxpayer-funded resources were used to suppress political speech at the direction of an elected official. We strongly condemn any actions that infringe upon citizens’ constitutionally protected right to free speech. Such behavior represents a serious violation of public trust. Irrespective of the Mayor’s apology about this situation, as the city’s legislative branch, we request that the City Attorney’s Office conduct a thorough review of the Mayor’s conduct in this matter. We are particularly concerned about any civil liability and ask for an assessment of any potential litigation costs to taxpayers. The Council remains committed to monitoring this situation closely to ensure it is handled appropriately. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Best regards, Joseph Lavey, Jr., Council President Robert Schmigel, Alderman, 1st Ward Frank DiBernardo, Alderman, 2nd Ward Joseph Marranca III, Alderman, 3rd Ward Joseph N. Loncar, Alderman-at-Large The controversy erupted when Tylec expressed his concerns about the parody page, which has been active for two years and, according to him, has caused confusion among residents. He labeled Quinn an “antagonist” and claimed that the impersonation could lead to misinformation. However, Quinn, who has publicly distanced himself from the page, described the mayor's actions as a blatant misuse of power, suggesting that Tylec is weaponizing the police for personal grievances. Quinn, who previously voted for Tylec, allowed officers to examine his phone to prove his innocence regarding the spoof page. He characterized the mayor's move as an attack and retribution for past conflicts including a 2019 incident where Quinn circulated a photo depicting Tylec as Adolf Hitler. Tylec dismissed the photo as fake, but the underlying issue remains: the mayor's response to criticism has crossed a line. While North Tonawanda Police Chief Keith Glass acknowledged that the spoof page is not a crime, he stated that it contains “a lot of misinformation.” This raises the question of why Tylec felt it necessary to involve law enforcement in a matter that should be addressed through dialogue and not intimidation. The Constitution protects citizens' rights to free expression and Tylec's attempt to silence dissenting voices is a concerning overreach. The spoof page includes a clear disclaimer indicating its satirical nature. It is not the role of the mayor or police to enforce Facebook's terms of service. For Tylec to dispatch police officers over a matter of free speech is not only shocking but also indicative of a troubling mindset among public officials who cannot tolerate criticism. Quinn's assertion that Tylec has targeted him for years adds another layer to this controversy. The mayor's apology during a recent board meeting, where he offered to explain the situation to Quinn's employer, does little to mitigate the damage done. In fact, the apology sounded insincere and condescending: “So, I will apologize, though, that they went to your place of work, and I’d be happy to call your boss and explain the situation further." At no time did he apologize, or attempt to explain, the abuse of power by ordering police officers, of whom he essentially signs their paychecks, to harass a resident. It is a stark reminder that the misuse of power can have real consequences for individuals who simply wish to express their opinions. The mayor's behavior not only undermines the principles of democracy but also sets a dangerous precedent for how public officials engage with their constituents. - Satirical Video Emerges Comparing Mayor Austin Tylec's Abuse of Power to Hitler
In the aftermath of Mayor Austin Tylec's controversial decision to involve uniformed police in a personal dispute over a spoof Facebook page, a satirical video has surfaced that draws parallels between Tylec's actions and a famous scene from the film "Downfall." The video, which has been sent to Niagara Action, features a reimagined version of the iconic scene where Adolf Hitler reacts to a crisis with altered subtitles that critique Tylec's handling of the situation. The video has gained traction in North Tonawanda circles, reflecting the community's discontent with Tylec's recent behavior. In it, the subtitles depict Tylec expressing frustration over the parody Facebook page and his decision to summon police officers to question a local resident, Jacob Quinn, who he accused of being involved with the account. The biting commentary highlights the absurdity of Tylec's actions against what many see as a blatant abuse of power. The use of the "Downfall" scene, which has become a popular meme format for expressing outrage or frustration, underscores the sentiment that Tylec's actions are reminiscent of authoritarian behavior. Ironically, Tylec's disdain for Quinn began after a 2019 incident where Quinn circulated a photo depicting Tylec as Adolf Hitler. VIDEO (READ FULL STORY BELOW) Some notable quotes from the parody are: "This is the last thing we need this is an election year." "I don't deserve this! I'm too fabulous." "This is terrible! - Spike in Coyote Sightings Causes Concern in North Tonawanda
In just one week, North Tonawanda Dog Control has received six reports of coyote sightings in the city and its surrounding areas, raising alarms among residents about their safety and that of their pets. Sightings have been reported in neighborhoods such as Forbes and Nash, as well as near Ward Road close to the Wheatfield town line leaving locals feeling uneasy. Wildlife experts note that we are currently in coyote mating season, which lasts until March. During this period, coyotes are often attracted to residential areas by food sources including unsecured trash, pet food left outside, and even small pets. To help deter coyotes, experts recommend taking action to scare them away such as opening the door, banging pots and pans, or yelling to make it leave. Throwing something in its direction can also encourage it to move on. It is also encouraged for residents to remove bird feeders as they can attract squirrels and other small animals that coyotes hunt. While the increase in coyote sightings may be concerning for residents, it is important to remember that these animals typically do not pose a significant threat to humans in New York State, with reported attacks averaging less than one per year. It's also crucial to remember that coyotes can scale fences. Spike in Coyote Sightings Causes Concern in North Tonawanda

- Officials Warn of Escort Scam where Prostitutes are Robbing and Blackmailing Patrons

Victims have reported being robbed after arranging meetings with individuals they believed to be prostitutes, according to complaints received by the DA’s office. The scams typically begin with contact made through online dating apps and escort service advertisements. In addition to the robberies, victims have reported incidents of blackmail where women filmed explicit videos and threatened to release them online. The scam has been documented in several areas including Amherst, Hamburg, and Lancaster with authorities suspecting that there may be additional unreported cases throughout Erie and Niagara County. - Hailee Steinfeld Makes Surprising Return to the MCU as Kate Bishop
Hailee Steinfeld made a surprise appearance in the Marvel Cinematic Universe reprising her role as Kate Bishop in the latest episode of Marvel Studios' animated series, "What If...?" Season 3. Fans of the franchise were excited to see Steinfeld's character return after her initial appearance in the 2021 series "Hawkeye" on Disney+, followed by a brief cameo in the post-credits scene of "The Marvels." In "What If...1872?," the sixth episode of the current season, Steinfeld's Kate Bishop teams up with Simu Liu's Shang-Chi in a unique Multiversal storyline set in the Old West. This marks the first time audiences have seen Kate Bishop since the finale of "Hawkeye," but this time she is portrayed through animation. The episode transports viewers to 1872 where Kate Bishop is no longer navigating the streets of New York City with her bow and arrow. Instead, she rides horseback, demonstrating sharpshooting skills with a revolver while still donning her signature purple and black. In this storyline, Bishop is on a quest to confront the Hood, who is responsible for the death of her family, while Shang-Chi searches for his long-lost sister Xu Xialing. Their journey leads them to a young boy named Kwai Jun-Fan who reveals that the Hood has been capturing Chinese immigrants and brainwashing them with the help of Sonny Burch. As the plot unfolds, both heroes find themselves captured by the Hood only to discover that Xialing has taken on the Hood's powers after killing him. In a climactic moment, Steinfeld's Bishop ultimately defeats Xialing, aided by the Watcher, who helps free the captives and prevents Kate from falling victim to brainwashing. The episode concludes with Kate Bishop and Shang-Chi deciding to remain partners, riding off into the sunset for their next adventure. However, the Watcher faces consequences for his interference, hinting at broader Multiversal implications. While this animated role marks a new chapter for Steinfeld's portrayal of Kate Bishop, she is no stranger to voice acting in the Marvel universe. In addition to her role as Kate, she voices Gwen Stacy in the animated "Spider-Verse" films, with her story set to continue in "Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse." As fans eagerly anticipate Steinfeld's return to live-action as Kate Bishop, speculation abounds regarding her future in the MCU. With hints of a potential "Young Avengers" project and the possibility of "Hawkeye" Season 2 in the works, it seems likely that Kate Bishop will play a significant role in upcoming ensemble films like "Avengers: Doomsday" or "Secret Wars." In the meantime, Steinfeld's next MCU appearance may also be animated as she is set to star in the 2025 Disney+ series "Marvel Zombies" alongside Iman Vellani's Ms. Marvel and Simu Liu's Shang-Chi.
