- Elementary Teacher Caught in Predator Poachers Sting Operation with 13-year-old Teen
A Buffalo elementary school teacher found himself in a shocking situation when he went to meet a 13-year-old teen girl he had been chatting with online and, instead of meeting the young girl named Lilly, he was confronted by a member of Predator Poachers, a group that creates fake social media profiles of underage girls to expose adult men. The encounter was recorded on camera and later posted on YouTube. The teacher, identified as Steven DeMart, had been engaging in lengthy conversations with Lilly for about a year. However, as he parked his car in an Amherst parking lot, he was ambushed by Alex Rosen, a member of Predator Poachers. Rosen confronted DeMart about his intentions towards Lilly, holding printed pages of their explicit messages and referring to explicit images that were allegedly sent by DeMart to the underage girl. In the hour-long video, DeMart expressed remorse and argued that he had formed a genuine bond with Lilly. He claimed that he would not have attempted any sexual contact until she reached the legal age. Despite his arguments, DeMart ultimately decided to turn himself in to the Amherst police. He now faces a charge of attempted endangering the welfare of a child, a misdemeanor. Following the incident, DeMart was placed on administrative leave by Buffalo Public Schools, where he serves as an instrumental music teacher at Dr. George Blackman School of Excellence. The district website confirmed his suspension pending an investigation. The video of the exchange between DeMart and Rosen has gained significant attention, with over 136,000 views and more than 1,600 comments. While Predator Poachers describes themselves as "investigative journalists," their tactics have raised legal questions. Law enforcement agencies rarely encourage the public to pursue this type of investigation, citing concerns about entrapment and adherence to legal regulations. Mark Bartholomew, a law professor at the University at Buffalo, highlighted the complexities surrounding these sting operations. He emphasized the importance of following legal protocols and regulations when conducting investigations, as private individuals may not be aware of the specific requirements. This incident is not the first time Predator Poachers has exposed individuals through their sting operations. The group claims to have led to arrests in over 40 states, similar to the NBC show "To Catch a Predator." However, some officials discourage others from following their example, urging the public to leave such investigations to law enforcement. Crimes targeting children are considered particularly heinous, and there is a growing concern that law enforcement struggles to keep up with the volume of online misconduct. While some argue that private sting operations can be justified as a means to combat these crimes, others emphasize the importance of adhering to legal procedures and regulations. The Amherst police have issued an appearance ticket to DeMart, and an ongoing investigation is underway. Buffalo Schools spokesperson Jeffrey Hammond stated that the district is unable to comment on personnel matters but confirmed that DeMart has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the investigation. It remains to be seen how this case will unfold and what impact it will have on the ongoing conversation surrounding online child exploitation and the role of private individuals in combating such crimes.

- Major Projects Approved for Downtown Niagara Falls: Apartments, Gateway Park, Power Plaza
Exciting developments are underway in downtown Niagara Falls as three highly visible projects have received approval, bringing the city one step closer to a transformative future. The USA Niagara Development Corp. (USAN), a subsidiary of Empire State Development, has given the green light to project plans for a new six-story, mixed-use building with apartments, a community event space near Niagara Falls State Park, and a pedestrian plaza. The centerpiece of the approved plans is a six-story, mixed-use building that will be located near Niagara Falls State Park and a pedestrian plaza. The building will feature apartments and a community event space, aiming to create a vibrant and visitor-friendly area. Anthony Vilardo, President of USAN, expressed his excitement about the approval, stating, "With the approval of these general project plans, USAN can take the next steps for making the projects a reality and continue to transform downtown Niagara Falls into a pedestrian, residential, and visitor-friendly area." The mixed-use building, proposed for 333 First Street, will be constructed on the site of the former Smokin' Joe's Native Center. It will offer 73 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartment units, along with 4,700 square feet of commercial space. The apartments will cater to individuals working in the hospitality and tourism industries, providing a mix of market-rate apartments and workforce housing for families with varying income levels. The first floor of the building will house Community Services for Every1, an organization offering workforce development and community habilitation services. The existing two-story building on the site will be demolished, and the land will be divided into two parcels. One parcel will be sold to CSE1 for the housing development, while the other will be held by USAN for future development. In addition to the mixed-use building, two park projects have also been approved. The Niagara Gorge Gateway Park will be developed across from the State Park Police barracks, transforming the former DiFranco Park into a multiuse pavilion with a capacity to host 1,400 people. The park will feature tiered outdoor seating, making it an ideal venue for community and school events, weddings, and small concerts. The Hydraulic Power Plaza, located on a site bounded by First, Second, Main, and Niagara streets, will pay homage to the city's industrial past. It will include a water feature with misting fountains, tree-lined walkways, and seating. Steel arches overhead will serve as a reminder of the city's electric lines. During the winter months, a temporary ice skating rink will be brought in, adding to the park's appeal. Heritage checkpoints with interpretive stations will also be featured in the plaza. These projects have been made possible through public land acquisitions under the state's Strategic Land Acquisition Program. The program involved the acquisition of seven buildings and over 8 acres of vacant land. Apart from supporting affordable housing goals set by Governor Kathy Hochul, these projects aim to strengthen the connection between downtown Niagara Falls and Niagara Falls State Park, which attracts 9 million visitors annually. Niagara Falls Mayor Robert Restaino expressed his enthusiasm for the projects, stating, "USAN will greatly impact development in the entertainment district. The proposed projects will reshape the downtown corridor for future projects."

Attendees for upcoming Savannah Bananas games asked to give up seats for upcoming game, sparking worries about entry into Sahlen Field in Buffalo Baseball fans in Buffalo are expressing concerns about their entry into Sahlen Field next week when the Savannah Bananas' highly anticipated "Banana Ball" comes to town. The team, known for their entertaining in-game antics and dance routines, is scheduled to throw the first pitch Friday through Sunday. Recently, some ticket holders received an unexpected email requesting them to give up their seats in exchange for other incentives. While tickets for the event went on sale back in October of 2023, those who had already secured their seats were informed this week that the game would be general admission with open seating. The email explained that the team found it challenging to deliver a top-tier experience with the general admission model. Fans were understandably taken aback by the email. To address the issue, the Savannah Bananas proposed a solution to fans. They offered the option to upgrade their tickets to lower-level seats at no additional cost or receive ticket credit for a game next season. However, there was a catch - the games offered as alternatives were located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, or Miami, Florida. In response to inquiries about whether the proposition was made due to overbooking, the Savannah Bananas denied this claim. They explained that, since the games fall on a holiday weekend, some ticket holders had changed their plans and could no longer attend. The team emphasized their intention to offer refunds or credits for future games. The team assured ticket holders that anyone with a ticket would not be turned away at Sahlen Field and would be allowed to enter on game day.

The 16-year-old is being charged as an adult and faces a minimum sentence of 15 years to life in prison, with a maximum sentence of 25 years to life. On the other hand, the 14-year-old faces a different sentence due to his age. He could be sentenced to a minimum of 7 1/2 years to life in prison, with a maximum sentence of 15 years to life. Keane stated that it is believed the boys were not targeting Carter and his sister specifically, but rather another young person. He expressed his alarm at the involvement of teenagers in such a tragic incident, emphasizing the unfortunate state of society. Keane assured that the prosecution will pursue the case to the fullest extent of the law despite the defendants' young age. He acknowledged the devastating loss suffered by the innocent child's family who will have to endure the pain and grief caused by this senseless act of violence. Keane declined to comment on the motive behind the shooting and did not disclose whether the alleged shooters have a criminal history. However, he expressed his belief that the boys had the intention to fire the guns. The investigation into the incident is ongoing, and further details may emerge as the case progresses. Buffalo Mayor Byron Brown also weighed in on the tragic incident, urging the community to continue reaching out to youth and providing safe spaces for them. He emphasized the importance of parents paying attention to their children's activities and being aware of what they possess. "What makes this even more tragic is that those who are charged with this crime are 14 years old and 16 years old. So literally, babies killing babies," Mayor Brown said. He expressed concern over the fact that children had access to guns and were willing to use them indiscriminately. Buffalo Police Commissioner Joseph Gramaglia expressed gratitude to the community and witnesses for their assistance in the investigation. The two teenagers are scheduled to return for a pre-trial conference on July 24th. They are currently being held without bail in the custody of the Erie County Youth Services Center.
- Council to Vote on Moratorium for Cryptomines in North Tonawanda, Residents Say It's Not Enough
A proposed moratorium is under consideration in North Tonawanda following continued noise complaints from the Digihost cryptomine facility. The facility, which began operating over two years ago, has been a source of frustration for residents who claim that it has significantly reduced their quality of life. Living along Sherwood Avenue in North Tonawanda used to be synonymous with tranquility, but the constant noise from the cryptomine has changed that perception. Since the Digihost cryptomine opened on Erie Avenue in February 2022, neighbors have been subjected to unrelenting sounds that have pushed many residents to their breaking point. North Tonawanda Mayor Austin Tylec acknowledges the ongoing concerns of residents but admits that finding a simple fix is challenging. He explains, "It's not like a house party that someone throws where we'd send police, quiet down, shut down the party, the noise stops. It is a much different situation that we have to deal with here." Mayor Tylec has been working with the blockchain technology company operating the cryptomine to address the noise issue. Attempts to change the equipment and install a sound-blocking wall have been unsuccessful thus far. Additionally, the city lacks the necessary equipment and training to prove that the noise is violating any codes. While Mayor Tylec has proposed a two-year moratorium to prevent future cryptomines or developments, it will not affect the current facility's operations or address the noise problem directly. The proposed moratorium aims to allow the city to thoroughly educate itself and ensure that all necessary measures are taken before making any changes to codes or issuing fines. Residents are skeptical of the city's justification for not taking immediate action. Some residents even believe the moratorium is a cop-out. The North Tonawanda Common Council is set to vote on the proposed moratorium for cryptomines on July 16th. The decision will determine whether the city takes a step towards addressing the ongoing noise complaints and finding a resolution that restores peace to the affected neighborhoods.
- 72-year-old Male Arrested for Producing Disturbing Child Porn Videos
A 72-year-old man, who is currently on parole for an attempted murder conviction dating back over 40 years, has been arrested for producing disturbing child porn videos, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office. Authorities revealed that during a routine home visit in April they conducted a cell phone search on Santos Gonzalez's phone. What they discovered was deeply disturbing. An investigation allegedly uncovered several self-produced videos depicting minor females in public settings, as well as a video filmed inside a residence with two minor females. Shockingly, one of the girls in the video has an order of protection against Gonzalez. Additionally, authorities found eight videos that allegedly show Gonzalez sexually abusing a minor female. Gonzalez, who was released from prison in December 2021, is currently on parole for his convictions in March 1981, which include attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon, burglary, and attempted assault. Gonzalez is now facing charges of sexual exploitation of a child and possession of child pornography. If convicted, he could be sentenced to a minimum of 15 years in prison, with a maximum sentence of 30 years. The arrest has sparked outrage and concern among community members, who are questioning how someone with such a violent criminal history was able to hide these assaults for so long. The U.S. Attorney's Office has assured the public that they are committed to pursuing justice in this case and protecting the welfare of children. They are urging anyone with additional information or potential victims to come forward and assist in the investigation.

- Josh Allen and Hailee Steinfeld Dance the Night Away at Kyle Allen's Wedding, Brittany Williams Watching
Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen and his girlfriend, actress Hailee Steinfeld, made a rare public appearance together this weekend at the wedding of former Bills backup quarterback Kyle Allen and his fiancée Summer Juraszek. The couple traveled to Mexico to celebrate the nuptials on June 21st. Surprisingly, Allen's ex-girlfriend Brittany Williams was also in attendance as she is close friends with Juraszek. Despite their breakup last April, Williams has maintained strong ties with the girlfriends and wives of several Bills players. Fans were delighted to see Allen and Steinfeld dancing together. Williams shared glimpses of the event on her Instagram Stories, documenting the weekend at the Chilean Bay Resort & Residences. She had also attended Juraszek's bachelorette party earlier in the month. The wedding was attended by many mutual friends of Allen and Williams, including Christian Kirk and his wife Ozzy Kirk, as well as Jarrett Stidhman and his wife Kennedy Stidham. Allen and Kyle Allen have been best friends long before their time in Buffalo. Although Kyle Allen recently signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, their friendship remains strong. The Bills quarterback even attended his friend's bachelor party in March. Both Williams and Allen were also present at the elaborate wedding of the Kirks in Scottsdale, Arizona, in April. Overall, it seems that Allen and Steinfeld's relationship is going strong and they continue to support each other in their respective endeavors. While numerous Bills players attended Luke Combs' concert at Highmark Stadium in April, Allen was notably absent as he spent the weekend supporting Steinfeld. The couple has been spending quality time together during the offseason, including a trip to Paris, France, for Fashion Week in March. Allen faced some initial backlash when he hurriedly exited a car ahead of Steinfeld, but he later humorously revealed that he was trying to escape the paparazzi after splitting his pants at dinner.
- UFC Boss Dana White's Casino Tirade Directed at Niagara Falls, USA? Canada Says Yes
NIAGARA FALLS, CANADA SHIFTS BLAME TO NIAGARA FALLS, USA Recent comments made by UFC Chief Dana White about a casino experience in Niagara Falls have caused some confusion and speculation. However, it has been confirmed that White's remarks were not directed at any Canadian Niagara Falls casino. A provincial government source connected with the oversight of Ontario's casinos stated, "We investigated it and didn't find any evidence Dana White was in an Ontario casino." This clarification puts to rest any doubts about White's presence in the region. While it remains unclear the casino White was referring to, it has been confirmed that it was not Fallsview Casino or Casino Niagara. Richard Taylor, president of Niagara Casinos, explained that there is often confusion between their properties in Canada and the USA casino located in Niagara Falls, New York. However, no confirmation has been made regarding White's comments about the Seneca Casino in Niagara Falls, New York. Dana White, known for his association with former president Donald Trump and his outspoken nature, has not provided further clarification on the specific casino he was referring to. In a recent podcast interview, White expressed frustration, saying, "I wish I could remember the name of this f***ing casino... up in Niagara Falls. Piece of s*** casino that I went to." He warned listeners about playing at such establishments and shared a disappointing experience where he expected a million dollars in credit but received only $300,000. While White's comments may have stirred controversy, it is important to note that he is entitled to his opinion. Many players would not receive such a generous "comp" and would be satisfied with the offerings of the fine casinos in the area. All Niagara Falls casinos, on both sides of the border, are highly regarded by visitors who appreciate their unique charm and excellent customer service. Friends and family of a man presumed drowned in the Niagara whirlpool are urging the police to continue their search efforts. The missing man, identified as Shubham Manchanda, a 25-year-old ex-international student from India, is believed to have fallen from a rock into the river on Saturday, June 15th. Shubham Manchanda had been living in Thorold and working at an IT and consulting company in St. Catharines for the past six months. Known for his love of nature, he was out for a hike on June 15th when the incident occurred. Despite the efforts of the Niagara Regional Police, Niagara Falls Fire, and the Canadian Coast Guard, the search has been unsuccessful thus far and has been called off. In an attempt to raise awareness and encourage the police to continue searching, friends, family, and supporters have taken to social media. Manish Arora, a childhood friend of Manchanda's from Faridabad, India, described their close bond and expressed his belief that Manchanda had a bright future ahead of him. The owner of Utica Tax LLC, Thuy Tran, is pleading for an end to the repeated attacks on his Buffalo business as police launch an investigation into the ongoing vandalism. Tran has been dealing with a troubling pattern of someone smashing the front windows of his storefront for the past several months. "Every month it seems like somebody comes by with a rock. 2am or 3am. They just break it," Tran expressed his frustration. "They'll come by with a rock sometimes with a hammer. They're not even taking anything. If they take something, I would be less mad, but here they just break the windows and run away." The most recent incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, June 21st when surveillance footage captured an individual approaching the accounting firm on Tonawanda Street with a rock in hand. After surveying the area, the person forcefully threw the rock at the front window before fleeing the scene. Tran shared his concerns, stating, "So every time they break it, it's something I have to worry about." To mitigate the damage, Tran spends a significant amount of time covering up the windows with plywood. However, the cost of repairing each window amounts to approximately $2,000. Evidence of the previous attacks is still visible with shattered glass scattered across the sidewalk and along the frames of the replaced windows. Tran expressed his concerns about the future, stating, "I don't think this is gonna be the last time. I think it will keep going, and I don't know what to do about it. I don't know why this particular property has this problem. I don't have a problem with anybody, and it keeps happening. I feel like my work is wasted." A city spokesperson confirmed that police and detectives are actively investigating the incidents of the Buffalo storefront being targeted in repeated attacks.
